The Mrs bought a new i10 in 2010 cost just a smidge over 6k.

It’s been great but I suspect we will have to change it sooner rather than later.

Just had a quick look around and the prices have certainly gone up !

Would prefer something up to 2 years old and preferably with a 5 year or longer warranty.

5 Doors.

Not interested in leasing will buy cash and run it until it stops.

I was hoping to spend no more than 9k but looks like I may have been off the mark with that !

Why change it until it is dead? Until then, save each month so you have a bigger budget?

FWIW, for a small car I still would head for an i10/i20, Picanto/C'eed, Mazda 2, Yaris/Corrolla....

VW Up/CitiGo/Mii

Don't bother with a warranty, get it serviced at a specialist rather than main dealer and put the cash you've saved from their prices in a slush fund in case it (n)ever breaks. Great little cars.

£9k is a bit short for the latest shape i10.

Not too far off though.

They're good cars and reviews are positive. It'll still have a bit of warranty fir teething problems but there's probably not much expensive to go wrong anyway.

Sandero also looks good for the money.

Toyota Aygo

https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202312084...

Fantastic cars. I currently have a Peugeot 108 (basically the same car / same 1.0 engine as the Aygo). Extremely cheap to run/maintain. Can cope with occasional motorway journeys.

I previously had a VW Up (2012) owned for 6 years. It was a good reliable car, however, Up's do suffer from rusty front wings (due to the arch liners) - hence why I would not buy another one.

I think you’re going to struggle to find something for £9,000 less than 2years old. Up the budget to £12,000 and you have more options in your age bracket. The Kia Picanto is a decent option.

My mother had an Aygo, and then upsized to a Yaris when they went to 1 car. Both very reliable.

Also Honda Jazz well worth a look, Very spacious interior, reliable and the really short bonnet and steep back make it great in tight spaces. Only problem my wife had with hers was some cracked paint on the bonnet.

A post 2014 Fiat Panda 1.2 is Euro 6. Had mine over 12 months, very slow, a 2016 model with 98k miles on it, but been faultless and they're available at £3k ish depending on mileage preference and spec. £35 VED too smile

You can pick up an MG3 a couple of years old for that with the remainder of the manufacturer warranty in budget.

It will also get a nearly new shape Dacia Sandero.

As below Toyota have warranty to 10 years if serviced at Toyota garage, so I’d buy one of those in these circumstances.

Currently driving around in a rental Rio 1.2 and it’s a very good package.

The 1.2 NA engine is responsive and suits the car.
Gear box smooth and 5 gears work well with the engine and size.
Apple car play and Android auto via a cable displays maps etc on the screen.
Nice manual controls.
Good size boot (when we had an Aygo is was annoying small)
Good NVH for its class.

We also have our own Mazda 2 GT Sport which is highly recommended but likes to be in high revs although economical in low revs
