I am looking at buying a non-runner , stripping some parts off to use on my vehicle, then scrapping the donor.

However the donor vehicle has no reg docs, and is/was French registered. It is low value so doubt that it has been officially exported/imported.

There is apparently a visible VIN number - and the private seller has offered a written receipt (to which I presumably can ask them to insert reasonable statements such as stating that they have full legal title etc).

My question- can a scrapyard/dismantler accept a car without some official documents? I can provide my identity details and the seller receipt therefore there would be a papertrail of sorts.

I am not looking to register the vehicle or get official paperwork - just not worth the hassle. However I'd also rather not end up with a massive fine or jail time either!

The donor is worth mid-hundreds (even mint examples are only a handful of thousands) - therefore it is unlikely that it has been stolen as not worth the effort. However I can't prove that - and a UK V5 would not prove ownership anyway.

Do-able with a helpful scrapyard?

Cheers

Scrapped mine last year, needed full documents.

This page suggests it’s doable though:

Thanks for that - I had seen a few links online with a variety of views, but not seen the WBAC one.

My issue with the DVLA notification is that I guess the imported car doesn't exist here yet!

Yes, the local company i’ve used are all legit and say this:
No, your V5C registration certificate (also known as a vehicle log book) is not essential and it will not affect your quote. However, it is very helpful if you can provide it. Abbey Scrap Cars will issue a DVLA Certificate of Destruction having the V5C assists our team with the DVLA notification and certification process.
