Advice about buying car in Europe

Hi all

I am emigrating to Spain very shortly, and planning my next car.

Second hand prices are very expensive in Spain so looking for alternatives.

Importing from UK seems to make no sense with duties, RHD etc, but I think I have a cunning plan!

I am looking at MK7 golf gti and they are much cheaper in Germany than Spain, so thinking about importing from within Europe and avoiding taxes.

Has anyone done this or can offer advice?

It will still be complicated. You won't have to pay import tax (EU to EU) but you'll be liable for Spain's VAT equivalent and also a registration tax that is based on the market value of the car and its emissions class. https://www.caserexpatinsurance.com/blog-typical-n...
