I am in the market for a sports car, something fun for the weekend up to £80k and have been drawn towards a cayman gt4 but have noticed the prices dropping recently and wondering if there is anything else I should consider with the budget?

I don’t plan to track the car every week but a couple of times a year it would be nice to do most driving will be b roads with occasional road trip.

You’d get a 911 t or s (991.2) for that and I’d rather have a 911 tha n a cayman but I’d have a Spyder over all of them

Lotus Exige……any variant will be more entertaining and bar 430 Cup cheaper.

That's a healthy budget which would get you into one of these:

Add a bit on for a Thorney warranty.

Or the NSX these are a lot better than people give them credit for, I'd recommend a test drive:

Or save a fair lick off of your budget & get a First Edition Emira, you'll never regret it:

Was going to say, definitely consider a McLaren when spending £80k

I wouldn’t touch an Emira at the moment, values are in free fall. Give it a couple of months they might begin with a 5.

McLarens look great value……just the running costs could be horrific.

I don't see nicely spec'd Emira's going below 60k it was similar with the Evora then price stabalised & rose back to sensible numbers.
Also what a car, OP like the NSX test drive an Emira before striking it off of your list as it's a cracking steer & fits your criteria & then some.

I agree, I had a GT4 although a 981 and didn’t think much of it. Nice car but boring. I bought a 410 Exige very happy with it. Although different people like different things.

as per above, £80k can get something that be much more special than a 718 gt4.

The NSX would be amazing.

The black and white Vanquish's go for £15k less than a 'better' colour might. lot of car for the cash.

NSX can only be serviced at two dealers in/around London, was a no go for me.
Emiras are definitely dropping in value plus issues of reliability and lack of dealer fixes first time.
There are some very good 718 GT4 around for 75-85k including clubsports.
59k will get you the yellow 981 GT4 Clubsport advertised at the moment with under 20k miles.

Enjoyed my pdk 718 gt4 last year, would have definitely got another at the time if you could have ordered it new with lift.

Only problem you have now is there are some other brands which offer alternative used cars for the same money, due to the drops.

Mclaren 570s or a nice 650s must be a set up for the same money?

Can’t comment on running costs as I’ve never owned a Mclaren. They do look lovely mind.

I'd be in a 981 GT4 with a warranty before any of the other options in this thread.

They're holding their money, they're engaging and fun, no expected big bills with a warranty.

Ticks every box for me (only reason I'm not in one is needing little people seats).

NSX is an attractive proposition as something different. That particular NSX has a lot of wear to the seat and wheel for 30K miles.

I also wouldn't touch an Emira at the moment. AT Price tracker shows so many being reduced time and again (discounts up to 9K) and still not selling, though to be fair, the same can be said for many other cars right now.

Some interesting replies to my original post, thank you.

The 718 GT4 I was keen to look at actually sold before I could look so now I am looking at other options. Even looking at a 718 GTS 4.0.

I do love the look of the Emira but worried it is too flashy and will get too much attention.
