Family Estate - Gen3 Octavia 2.0 TDi DSG?

Anyone got any improvements on this as a plan?
- I believe from elsewhere they will be 6sp DQ250 wet clutch box. (1.4/1.5TSi and 1.6 TDi is the 7sp dry DQ200)
- Struggling to find any significant advantages to the 2017 facelift beyond aesthetic changes?
- Downsides to the 181bhp VRs vs the stock 147bhp model?
- Downsides (upsides) to the 4wd version for normal road use?
- Is it daft to go older than 2013 and get a late 11 plate Gen2?
- Would rather avoid a boring colour, in favour of a red or blue one!
- Struggle to stretch the budget to the Petrol 2.0 TSI VRS. Sub £10k target, less the better....
Based on the Wirral, northwest.
Will do around 10k PA, mainly motorways miles to work and family holidays to the lakes.

Upside to the facelift spec is it gets a nicer infotainment system with apple car play/android auto as standard.
The SEL spec which I have also has half leather/suede type seats. But more importantly it has LED headlights which are so much better then the candle lit halogens.
The downside being all the facelifts are post march 2017 so road tax isnt £30 but rather £180 per year.
I wouldnt worry about gearbox, the DSG problems or yesteryear Ive heard mainly apply to 2013 and before so Mk2 mainly.

Fair, the MiL had the half leathers and LED lights I think, don't think either of us have used apple/andriod but good spec would be well on the list, I would rather nice spec then less miles. The 'SE L' spec appears to be a common good one so thats a good steet, ditto headlights. Hopefully get to look at one or two tomorrow and or some more over the weekend.
I bought 2.0 litre 4x4 petrol with dsg after driving mercs for years, well pleased with it, comfy, roomy and more than enough power even in standard mode. Agree with comment about estate being a bit noisy compared to saloon, maybe down to cheap tyres that were fitted before I purchased
The saloon does have a large boot, might be more than enough for your needs, I struggled to get model and spec I wanted they seem to sell fast.

Well, I went to look at this car today, and wasn't impressed with what I saw.to be honest.I know it's the VRS, and used car prices are a lot higher than they where, but Christ! Wet carpets, baggy seats all round, lots of interior wear and scratches, lots of scratches around all the door handles, rust on the bootlid around the number plate and lots of rust underneath. Both rear clusters and one of the headlights full of water.
Honestly feels older and more tired than my 2001 reg 199k E46, and slower to 60 to boot, for more money!?
Maybe a Superb would be better value, a £300 remap would up the power slightly if required.

The hatch & estate have the same size boot up to the window line. Above that the sloping rear of the hatch reduces the capacity. The SEL spec which I have also has half leather/suede type seats. But more importantly it has LED headlights which are so much better then the candle lit halogens.

Originally went to see the Volvo (local, less of them around) but as it was at a Skoda dealership and the other hot contender is the Octavia, seemed mad not too.
Obviously they conveniently only had a 70 plate gen4 in stock. When it's really the gen3 we where looking at.
It was very nice. Smoother power delivery and change on the 6sp Octi than the Volvo 8sp auto.
Volvo has the badge appeal from the front, but on every other measure, the Skoda wins it for me.

The more we look, the more the budget increases, I continue to be amazed how much used car prices have rocketed, even though I knew they had before we started looking.
The above Octi is a 70plate Gen4, 2/0 TDI 6pd DSG, and I must say it was very nice. But it was also 21k.
Although it looks odd, the little flippy gear switch works well, better than the clunky shifter in the Volvo, and it has flappy paddles!
Bit weird have no temp control knobs, radio volume etc, on the dash.

What are you basing that off? I wouldn’t pay too much attention to the official mpg figures.We are currently also looking at the Volvo V60 and it appears to be the same crack when comparing the D4 (or D3) with the petrol T4.
Ironically, it now looks like the car coming out on top will the 190bhp T4 engine V60.
Because the particularly car is a nice example, with a lot of spec options ticked.
My calcs based on the official figures and current fuel prices suggest the petrol will cost around 25% or £500 a year more than the D4 or D3 diesel.
