I've just put a deposit down on a car.

The dealer is going to MOT it next week before I collect it.

I'm looking at drive away 1 day insurance how do I go about taxing the car to enable this?

Can it all be done online at the dealer on the day ... register the car in my name, tax, and 1 day insurance?

The dealer should be able to tax for you before you arrive and just add it to the bill

Just tax it online at the dealer when you are picking it up.

Can you not just insure it for the year? I got my insurer (Admiral Multicar) to quote me on the new vehicle and then 'accepted quote' as soon as the payment went through for the car.

You can tax it when you pick it up - takes about 5 mins.

This whole process has been made really easy in fairness.

I recently bought a car from over 200 miles away, I insured it the night before, taxed it in about 3 minutes whilst my bluetooth connected to the car and the seller registered the sale with DVLA at the same time. If you have phone signal or wifi and the v5 you will be fine!

The dealer wont be taxing it before you arrive, you can tax it online in 5mins with your 24hr insurance, but will need to be done in your name, there have been threads on here of the balls up it causes if the rfl is in the dealers name.

Such an influx of first time posters recently...

Anyway, yes really easy, takes 2 minutes to tax, and the dealer may be able to sort insurance, if not do it in advance then accept the quote once you've purchased the car.

To me that’s a good thing.

This.

Get the quote online, or even push the button on taking the policy out.

Unless its a project car thats going direct into storage or something.

Makes perfect sense.

Last time I bought a car I took out the insurance the day before I collected it (effective from collection day).

As I'd bought it privately I just asked the seller to not notify the change of ownership until the next day as it was taxed and that way wouldn't register on ANPR cameras!
