Ok il keep it as simple as possible....but im asking for experience here of each car and if anyone has had more than 1 of the list then that is great

Thinking about my next car, coming from a reliable, good value for money Kia Proceed GT, now want the next step up

Budget 20k, petrol, under 8 secs 0-60, on one hand i want something i can fit the kids in, but i also want something more exec/more classy....but also thinking....last car on my list :0 but then a bit of a "chat" with the missus ensues on....shes not driving it.

Looking at......more sensible, ie 4 seats

Alfa Guilia Veloce 2017/2018.....has to be higher bhp or would a good spec Super and a remap work?

Merc C300 coupe....want the 2.0l petrol rather than the thrashy 1.5l

Jaguar XE S (3 litre Petrol).....love the sound....although XF 3.0l maybe too long in the tooth miles wise

OR

Porsche Cayman, budget around 14k, save a few k to take it to the next level.

Will be mostly commuting to work 3/4 times a week (20mile round trip) and weekend fun.

Your thoughts and experience welcome of each.

Thanks in advance

How about a BMW 440i gt (F36) with the B58 3.0 inline 6 and the ZF 8 speed. The drivetrain is great and the GT bodystyle sets it a bit apart. Its 3 series brother as a sallon or estate are also nice.

A bit of a budget stretch but you could get a nice M4:

https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202309212...

I like the XE S but I think the XF-S is a better package imo, you can get the facelift model for a smidge over your budget:

https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202309162...

https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202309071...

Rather than a Giulia (as good as it is) I'd actually suggest taking a good look at the Ghibli:

https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202309292...

Edition 125 C63:

https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202309021...

https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202309031...

https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202307219...

Or the full fat S:

https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202307280...

Lrftfirld but a bloody good car is the 370Z Nismo:

https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202309131...

Over budget but worthy of a good look is the M6:

Thanks for the recommendation. They do look good I must admit. I was looking at BMW 4 series coupes before the Kia but decided to not spend out that much.
You’ve given me food for thought though.

I was waiting for you….you gave me good advice last time :-)

All cars I’d like, plus alternatives.

I do like the exclusiveness of the Maserati but I’m worried on the cost/maintenance side.
Im sure I’m going to be told any of those cars there is an upkeep/premium cost that I won’t be used to coming from a Kia though.

Im looking for performance, exclusivity, reliability and probably decent mpg for the performance too. Probably can’t get that all overall in 1 package.

Notice the first BMW is high mileage.

Merc C63 I’ve always liked and sound amazing but probably have a certain rep I wouldn’t be accustomed to these days.

Keep looking at that Maserati tbh. But wary. What’s the service bills and maintenance like? Anyone owned one?

I think the Nismo probably would be too much for me.

Jag XF facelift is also a better shout for me as I like that look.

Forgot to say ideally tax under £400. £700 is too steep for me (I know I know)

Any thoughts on the Cayman? It would be a 10 year older car compared to the rest. High bork probability too and IMS.

Hmm lots of thought provoking links and ideas you 2 have given me now

With the Maserati I'd say check if you have an Indy near you, they're actually not bad service wise (dependent on your annual mileage of course) they drive well & are a very nice place to be.

The M4's will all be high mileage at your price point, I wouldn't say the C63's have an image now so if you can live with the tax then you'll have a cracking car.

Also the M6 may be a better buy (especially if you can haggle it closer to 21k wink

Something that slips under the radar is the S6 saloon, they're under £400 tax with a twin turbo V8 & are spacious/well equipped.
Admittedly the Jag is a better steer & also has a better ride imo BUT the S6 counters with the engine & interior.

I like the Cayman but I'd only be looking at a 2.7 fust to save on the potential borkage:

https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202305247...

https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202309182...

I like the Cayman but I'd find it hard not to buy an SLK55:

Seen a few indies in Hertfordshire I may call them up for service prices/general maintenance prices.

I think M4/C63 probably out of the list due to high mileage then tax.

M6 I will add to the list to take a look.

I’m not a fan of the Audi’s to be honest but thanks.

At the moment I’m thinking Cayman, XF, M6.

What’s your opinion on the Guilia and C300 then? Not in the same league as the 3 above?

I do like the SLK’s but not big on a soft top otherwise I’d be thinking Boxster as an additional car and keep the Kia too.

Annual mileage is around 6-7k.

The C63's I linked to had between 50-80k on the clock so you should be able to buy one with sensible mileage but it does still leave the tax.

The Giulia/C300 aren't in the same ballpark as any of the above but I would take the Giulia over the C300.

E400 Coupe, same drivetrain as the 43 models:

I'd suggest a Kia Stinger, or the other end of the spectrum the often overlooked Maserati Ghibli.

Slight left-field choice however Volvo V60 polestar. 3.0 turbo, plenty of power and enough room to deal with growing kids and enough boot space to put them in if they get too annoying. also they do look quite tasty in rebel blue. looks to be around about 20k

S4 B8.5 Avant does all that. I'm not an Audi fan, but I do like the S and RS versions.

Thanks i think the tax would be the issue and the fact theyre older = possible maintenance costs.

E400 isnt a bad shout. I will look at these. Thank you

XE S 3.0 V6 the whine of the supercharger, roar of the V6 and handling balance of a proper sports saloon.

Definitely worth test driving.

If you’re concerned about your VED not exceeding £400 pa, then I would suggest that many of the vehicles suggested within this thread are totally unsuitable as regards potentially high maintenance costs.

I would back your original instincts and get an Alfa Guilia that I would keep unmodified. If you keep it well serviced it will be reliable with excellent residuals due to it’s desirability which is unlikely to diminish in forthcoming years.

If it helps, the S4 Avant B8.5 is about £330 tax, servicing, brakes etc is all bog standard stuff really and it's quite an easy car to work on. Tons of mod options if one gets bored, even a cheeky remap will take it to over 400bhp

In over two years and 20k miles I've had an ABS sensor fail (£28.99), rear washer jet spray was a little corroded inside (£5.29) and a front suspension bush had a bit of play. I went in thinking it was going to be expensive, yet it's been the most reliable car yet (I'm going to regret saying that) and this coming from someone who has had a lot of Hondas in the past! lol

I don't know about the other cars, perhaps other owners could assist.
