Is there a car which will swallow a 8x4 sheet?
Discussion
I'd be amazed if there was - I'm not sure there'll be any car or even mpv that has 8' behind the back seats. That means standing them up, but I doubt anything would be tall enough. This is why I was very happy when my local builder's merchant started stocking 6x3' plasterboard which fits in my car no problem at all.

Roof bars hmm. Next stupid question... would a fiat 500 with roof bars be suitable for carrying 8x4 sheets?
What I've done in the past is strap a couple or three solid bits of wood front to back on my bars - ideally similar length to the sheets. Then fix to those. Otherwise you have the potential for sheets flapping / snapping. It's a faff but so is hiring a van.

Better to get them delivered from your local wood yard. https://www.wickes.co.uk/deliverydetails

Yeah delivery is fine when you've planned around it, but sometimes you just need to pick up a sheet or some lengths of timber ad-hoc. Sometimes I may need to carry other large items from one place to another. A roof rack does sound like the way to go.
In which case a Fiat 500 would be no good at all, I'd say get a pick up with a truckman top & roof rack, that'll be job jobbed then

To which the answer is yes, of course he can. As long as it's secured properly.

You laugh but my mate bought a Mondeo that was blacked out and used for carrying stiffs presumably around from hospitals to mortuaries. Gassing Station | Car Buying | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
