What hybrid saloon?
Discussion
Hi all. It’s time to change - from a 2013 bmw 520D . I’m not doing enough miles to keep the PDF clean, so a petrol hybrid is the way forward.
A 530e would be the obvious choice. Is there anything else worth considering? Definitely no SUV’s!
Either saloon or estate please. Budget is around £20k
Thanks in advance

As long as you are doing the occasional long journey, the DPF clean is not an issue. Keep the 520d if you like it.A 530e would be the obvious choice. Is there anything else worth considering? Definitely no SUV’s!

(a PDF is a Portable Document File, such as Adobe Acrobat, Apple Books, etc.)
One of these will have a 10 year / 100k miles warranty from new provided you service it at Toyota.

Thanks for all the suggestions. Some real left field ones there! I should have specified plug in though.
The current car isn’t allowed into Glasgow centre any more - not that I go there often, and a blocked DPF nearly spoiled a holiday a couple of weeks ago. It’s going through a phase of annoying little glitches, so it’s time to be someone else’s.
I’m going to look at a 530e tomorrow 😆

did you get the 530e? if so how are you getting on with it? or did you buy something else. Asking as cars suggested on this thread are on my current list of procrastination The current car isn’t allowed into Glasgow centre any more - not that I go there often, and a blocked DPF nearly spoiled a holiday a couple of weeks ago. Hi. Yes, I got the 530e. It suits my requirements very well. It never has 27 miles as a range, though which is annoying. It get charged on a 3 pin socket at the cheap overnight rate we have for my wife’s i3. I reckon it costs 50p to fully charge.
The petrol tank is smaller , which isn’t an issue for me. The couple of long journeys I’ve done ( Glasgow to Dorset with a trailer on) I’m happy to stretch my legs anyway.

How does the battery / hybrid voodoo work on long journeys? Does it use up the battery charge first and switch to petrol, or use the battery over the course of the journey? ARe there any scenarios where it runs on petrol only (and what sort of mpg does it give)? The petrol tank is smaller , which isn’t an issue for me. I’ve usually got it on eco plus. It uses the battery first, although over 60 mph it switches to petrol automatically. The regen will top up the battery a bit when you are braking. I don’t have it using engine power to generate .
I drove from glasgow to Dorset with a trailer. Pretty much petrol all the way. On the way down, 39 mpg.
On the way back, with a car on, 35 mpg.
Normal driving claims 51 mpg. The last two days, on local trips, I didn’t use any petrol 😀

I noticed these are getting nicely 'cheap' - seemingly the same price as a similar age/miles Camry on which it is based.
Bargain Barge of the future.
Are these ones that can be nicked in a couple of mins easily (via headlight canbus) so insurance is going up and yet Lexus are only fitting metal plates in the vulnerable spot in the more expensive RXs at the moment? A mates Rav 4 has just had some lads digging in wheel well before they appear to have been discovered and trotted on. Bargain Barge of the future.
