Where are Cazoo cars registered?

I bought a car from Cazoo which was delivered on Wednesday. But they haven't notified the DVLA, and say they won't do so until their 7-day money-back period expires.

This doesn't seem right, because I own the car right now (if I choose to sell it, I can, and if I crash it, I'm responsible), but they're resolute that that's their process and there's no way round it.

But I need to update my personalised registration plates to the new car. I have the V5C number. All I need is the postcode where it's currently registered, ie Cazoo's postcode. Does anyone know which postcode they use? I've tried their head office and it didn't work. Thanks.

I wouldn't assign my reg to a car which is registered to somebody else. Just wait until it's in your name.

I tend to agree but I don't know how to make Cazoo process the sale. They were quite happy to take the money but for some reason they want to keep the car registration as well…

Presumably they don't process the transfer until the 7 day return period has expired, as otherwise if the car is returned it will show an extra owner when they resell it. Just wait until the 7 days is up, the registered keeper will be transferred to you, and then put your reg on it?

Then you have 14 days where you can simply call them and tell them you want to return the car for a full refund if you're not happy.

They'll even come back to your house to collect it.

This is why they hold off from changing the ownership straight away, in case you change your mind about keeping the car.

Whether that's actually right, or wrong, that's why they do it.

In answer to your actual question, dealers don't have to register cars, DVLA is informed it's in the hands of a dealer by sending off the yellow slip when someone sells their car.

V5c is registered keeper, not legal owner. Yes, you could sell it tomorrow, but without a V5c, you'd have to do a transfer to another keeper later....

Your insurance also asks are you the registered keeper. Or at least I think that they do.

Presumably, that's why he knows the V5c number. But when they do a change of keeper, this will automatically be cancelled and the OP will have to do it again. Unless he has used the number on the new keeper slip, but Cazoo haven't followed this up with a change of keeper, yet....

A gap between those two wouldn't matter, there are sellers who still post off the V5c for a change of keeper.

I’m not absolutely 100% but pretty sure that the postcode it’s currently registered to will mean the one that shows on the V5 i.e the last owner. Cazoo will of course have notified the DVLA of the car being bought in to trade but that changes nothing on the V5.
