Which SUV for parents, up to £32k?

My parents are currently in the market to replace their Mitsubishi Outlander, and are currently struggling on what the right buy is, they would like it to be as new as possible and are happy with either Petrol or Petrol Hybrid, and aren't interested in a plug in version

I've gone through quite a lot of suggestions with them, the must-haves are panoramic sunroof and electric adjustable seats - beyond that, as new as possible and preferably less than 20k miles (I've tried to argue this point, but didn't win)

Have looked at the Peugeot 3008/5008, Kia Sportage and the Ford Kuga - the latter was vetoed on looks

It's not a market of cars I've ever really explored so not sure what the 'go-to' options are here, I've heard good things about the Hyundai Tucson, but happy to hear your thoughts here

Reason for the SUV is having a relatively large dog (Italian Spinone) and beyond that, just their preference

That looks fantastic - will definitely pass that one on and see what they say, a lot more interesting than most of what has been looked at - the MPG quotes for a 3.5L seem... optimistic mind you

Much better. Easier for them to get in and generally more space in the back.

Easier to park too as more likely to fit in a conventional space. Really don't understand the fascination for giant SUVs

Deary me. You must find parking difficult if you'd struggle with a Pug 3008/5008, a Kia Sportage or a Ford Kuga. Giant they are not.

I'd say that the slightly smaller NX300h would be the pick as you get a newer car, which would see them to 2029/30 in terms of warranty.

I'd say an estate is a lot better for the dog.. I have an estate and a small SUV (Q2) for my wife... dog loading and space is superior in the estate and it is far better to drive.

However I get the SUV thing for older people as it is a bit easier to get in and out of.

I'd be going for something from Toyota or Lexus to maximise the warranty period. If you wanted something German and relatively compact I would consider the Q2, though understand the looks can be a bit marmite.

Can they wait? Used car prices are dropping like a stone at the moment, at least the Volvo XC40 I’ve been looking for (Petrol, Auto, upto 30k miles, upto 3 years old).

I have been monitoring Autotrader. They were mostly over 30k in May, now softened to 26.5k and dropping.

Market reports say its because the supply chain has returned largely to normal now. Car makers are trying to maintain market share and offering incentives again so newish cars aren’t fetching nearly list anymore.

That's what we did after a long look . Skoda Kodiak that is . Had it for four months , new to us but three years old . Really like it , super made car and very roomy.

Litres doesn’t always show how usable the space is. I know when we had one the boot was (or certainly felt on) the smallish side. Maybe it was the slope of the tailgate that made it seem small.
