One hour insurance recommendations
Discussion
I've bought a Yaris shed for my daughter off the mother in law. Helpfully it's taxed & MOT'd but uninsured. The plan is to bring it back here for a decent overhaul ahead of her 17th birthday & it'll go up on axle stands for a few weeks. I know short term insurance is a thing for these situations but are they all much the same or is there any consensus on providers? It's literally a half mile journey but I'd like to keep things legal obvs.
If you stop insurance the VED remains valid, until DVLA sent you a shirty reminder about CIE (continuous insurance enforcement) but that can be a few weeks. I've used cuvva myself, outside the busy periods, it's less than £10 for several hours, big excess usually though, understandably. They all have vehicle age limits though so try a quote first if it's 15 yrs old or more.
There's no need to panic about VED on change of keeper either. It only becomes 'untaxed' once DVLA are notified of the change of keeper. The last couple of cars I bought that had valid VED, I just asked the seller to give me a few hours if they are going to do it online (it was 29th or 30th I think so I bought it 1st of the next month
) I was happy to put the time of purchase on a receipt in case they had concerns about speeding tickets etc, I do this when I sell too. One seller insisted on doing it old-school by post so that gave me several days anyway.
