I bought a Mini Cooper back in March however my circumstances have changed since purchasing the car and I have decided I want to upgrade. I went to sell my car on Saturday to Evans Halshaw before I bought the new one and they told me that the HPI check flagged a mileage discrepancy. I bought the HPI report on Saturday evening and it does clearly state there is a mileage discrepancy. I spoke to one of the sales team at the garage and they said that the miles look fine so don’t know what’s wrong. The owner rang me today and I sent him a copy of the report. He said the issue is due to the private reg that was on the car before I bought it has flagged up against my current car?

I just want to know where I stand. I only found out about this as I was going to sell the car but can no longer sell it until this is sorted which means I’m more than likely going to miss out on the car I was due to buy on Saturday.

The dealer didn’t offer any advice and just told me to take it up with HPI ignoring the fact he blatantly didn’t run the HPI check when he sold me the car. Am I within my rights to ask the dealer to take the car back and refund me?

I'm not aware that a dealer is obliged to carry out a HPI check when selling a car. Sure, having a clean HPI may help the dealer sell the car, but I don't think that there is a legal requirement.

Another question is why didn't you do a HPI check before buying the Mini?

unless you can prove the car was misrepresented or the dealer lied to you I don't think you have much comeback. Do you have a copy of the advert? Does it claim HPI clear? Did you ask if it was HPI clear?

Does the dvla mot check show the discrepancy?

The least I'd do is put it all on a nice google review for the garage.

It might be worth contacting citizens advice as a dealer isn't allowed to with hold any information they have about the car that may have affected your decision to buy that car.

And as asked above?

Do they advertise their cars as Hpi checked?

If so, print a few of their adverts off to show a judge in case it ever got that far.

BTW, next time do a VCheck instead of a HPI as it also check salvage data

What is the miles discrepancy? Could literally be just the MOT guys making a typo when filling out the template...

This happens quite often.
HPI flags problems from a numberplate that was associated with the car but the problem is not with your actual car.

When I see this, I accept it as no problem and move on, I'm surprised Evan Halshaw doesnt do the same
