I've posted on here before and got some solid advice which resulted in me going for a new MX5 ND over a Porsche Cayman, so thought I would see what general thoughts are on my next purchase!

I have a base model NB1 that I've done and work to (turbo), but I want to replace with it a NB2 S-VT which is the 1.8 model with the highest trim level.

I've found one, but I'm a bit skeptical on it. I've heard rumors to not buy cars from Bradford or Birmingham and this car falls into that category.

Car looks to be in ok nick, isn't too expensive but it has mot advisories for the chassis legs which the seller claims have been welded, also claims the sills have been welded which checks out in the photos. Some of their statements over the phone don't correlate with the ads description but this could be because they have 5-6 cars for sale. The person is clearly a flipper.

Am I potentially falling into stereotypes here or should I be very very wary about this car/seller?

I'm fully prepared to repair issues, it's just what I don't/can't see worries me, especially if the seller is being misleading.

Yeah I'm getting cold feet. Even with rot the car is still worth buying at the listed price, is all the little things that creep up I'm worried about.

Why not buy cars from Brum or Bradford?

No idea, apparently it's a thing and I assume it's a thing for a reason. I guess historically people are more likely to rip you off.

Can you not find an SVT sport (rotten / write off) and transplant the bits?

Thats my plan for my NA, and some throttle bodies smile

That won't happen for a good bit of so, I was hoping for something that was running well for a year or two. My NB1 has already had 5k sunk into it, my partner isn't fond of the idea of another project lol. Plus this car has something on it I was really wanting, a Mazda Speed body kit.

So go and look at it?

If the car is right when you see it, buy it.

I was planning to but I'm not going to bother my arse with it. It's 5 hours away, and trying to get information out of the seller is impossible. Takes a whole day to respond, I said 2-3x I want to come see it and wouldn't give address.

I just asked him if there are receipts for the welding, and there isn't yet the ad claims the car has full history. He then said "best leave it , you're not sure about it" so yeah guy is definitely sketchy.

Probably more rot than he's admitting to.
Got a bit scared you know what your looking at so put you off.

Yeah I think so, I also think he just doesn't know. He's only had the car 2 weeks or 4, he can't seem to make his mind up.

Probably going to sell it to some unsuspecting character, shame really. Nice car, good spec, really wanted the body kit. It's proper rare.
