Do you bear a grudge?

In my mid-twenties I bought my first BMW – a 328i Sport Coupe, bought as an AUC from a main dealership group which I presume I shouldn’t name. A few months into ownership bubbles appeared on the offside rear panel near the rear lights. I took the car into the dealership and asked them to fix it, but they claimed the bubbling was due to previous repair work, and not their responsibility. I responded that that was irrelevant – as an AUC it came with an anti-corrosion warranty, and they were obliged to repair the paint.

The dealership resisted very hard, and it took a blazing row with the sales manager and a threatening fax (yes, it was the mid 90’s!) before they finally agreed to accept responsibility and fix it.

I have since bought 8 further BMWs, culminating 18 months ago in an AUC F90 M5. Although I live in the same region, none of these have been bought from the dealership group which caused me so much grief earlier in my car ownership journey, nor have they been serviced by said group. The group is in effect not an option when I look at changing car.

Good customer service is so easy. Like saying ‘please’ and ‘thank you’, it costs nothing. Poor customer service, on the other hand, can be a costly mistake.

Am I mad, or does anyone else bear grudges against those that have served them poorly?

I got a pre-purchase inspection done recently on a Boxster S, which recommended I bought it. Details that should have been mentioned weren't and then the engine expired a month after purchase. Am I pissed off - you fking bet I am. I have no legal recourse either sadly. It will most likely take me a year to recover from the financial loss if not longer. I'm not going to let it dominate my life but for sure this guy isn't my favourite person to say the least, and neither are the sellers.

I do, and i can be petty.
I don't use sainsbury as their staff member decided to ignore me and talk to her mate about where they were going that evening.
They were on the customer service desk and I needed change for the trolly.
I had a little strop and walked out. That was about 5 years ago and I don't use any of their outlets.
I did also email them about it.

I'm petty but it's the principle for me.

Porsche engine failures yet again yet people think they are built like a rock , they must have the most engine problems of any manufacturer imo of course.

I read all of this when it all kicked off on the FB group. Disgraceful behaviour from the so called inspector. Like you, I'd be livid at suffering a £5k loss after only a few weeks. Especially after a PPI being done by someone is supposedly 'trusted and respected' within the community. I honestly dont know how the guy can get away with just shrugging his shoulders.

I don't bear grudges but I don't take too kindly to the following two:

1. Wasting my time
2. Inflexibility

Example of this is bringing your own tyres you specifically sourced for their specification. You don't want the carp the local garage offers. You go in with your tyres and they say they won't fit them. For 'insurance reasons' or whatever. You go to the garage across the road and they fit the tyres while you wait.

For me... where am I going to go next time?

I would go back to the other place... but not the first port of call since I know them to be inflexible time wasters.

I carefully considered whether to take it further, but mine and most other opinions I've sought suggest that I would only have the slimmest chance of recovering anything, but a fairly good chance of costing myself more time, money and stress, so I've decided to leave it and try and move on for the sake of my sanity

For sure it will be my last ever Porsche. I know I've just been really unlucky but it's completely tainted the marque in my eyes - not just what happened to me but just the sheer amount of issues I read about when I really started digging a bit more about them.

Ultimately, they're out of my league really anyway. I'll stick to MX5s in future.

Yes and I suppose I can also be petty. Buying my current car I went to my most local dealer. They let me test drive a car but I had told them I wanted a bright coloured 410. They put pressure on me to buy a silver 410.

I went a dealer over 100 miles away from me the next day and bought a brand new orange one.

Same day the local dealer put on their instagram the same car I’d bought but second hand and about £10k cheaper. I commented saying if they had told me that was coming in I’d of bought it but I had bought another one.

They added me, then blocked me. Petty!

I’m currently thinking about buying a Caterham next. Guess where my money won’t be going!

Yes. I will never buy a VAG group car again after the experience I had owning a Mk4 Golf in the early 2000s. A comically unreliable car that resulted in a few VW dealers absolutely fleecing me for years (when I was at my most financially insecure). It tainted the whole brand for me, and since Audis, Skodas and Seats are basically the same cars I ignore them too.

Mercedes dealer just off the A1 south of hitchin, but north of Welwyn Garden City.

The “service” staff (and I use that term in the lightest possible way) are without exception a bunch of s.

I would never have an another Mercedes because of them. A shame as I liked the cars…

To be honest it probably didn't help that my first Boxster was written off on a country road (not my fault). They don't exactly feel like a "lucky" car for me

Amazing how experiences differ. Four cars from Arnold Clark now, zero issues and good service throughout.
