Used S class or 7 series?

Was looking for a used luxury motor around £15k -£20k and thought the 7series f10 looked particularly good value offering reasonable performance and mpg in diesel 3 ltr format.
Not being a particular admirer of Bmw , primarily due to their being so many on the road. Always like something a bit different.
Read a few forums and so called motorists reviews and general opinions were that the S class was a better car especially for comfort , ride quality and luxury .However same reviews suggested the 7 series was a better car to drive and more pleasing to the eye especially sport versions. Some what a contradiction in opinion? How can the 7 series be inferior when a better drivers car and asthetically more pleasing?
Personally having viewed both 2014/ 15 models I prefer the look of the 7 series, and found the drive to be more engaging.
Anyone any opinions on these two great cars.

The 7 is less barge like when pressing on. The S is more pleasant when not. Both are fugly on the outside and reek of executive minicab so to be honest it boils down to how you enjoy the drive, how you enjoy the cabin as well as whether you want diesel or a silly engine, in which case Merc does that better than BMW in the big cars.

I don't think I would ever pick the 7 series over an S class. I have had both and been in many iterations of them across more than a decade and the S Class just wins hands down. It's the king of the segment and its stayed that way for a reason.
Audi A8 doesn't even get a look in - I had one of them too and on paper should be better, in reality it just doesn't stack up.

I'd always choose a 7 series over an S class, they're still drivers cars and handle well and can be punted down a road without falling apart at the first sign of a corner, I find the S class of that era to be a bit cheap and plain inside, with the newer models being quite attractive if you're a magpie but not as solid as the 7 series interior in terms of quality.
The S class is a really nice place to be, but so hardwearing it does often fall foul of those who magically are running to London Luton using Waze to tell you the speed, not the speedo which seems to be... out of order. Just look at the number on London streets idling but with no dash motion when travelling.
Jag XJ is smaller inside, but very cossetting, and has a fab interior. It's not as big, but if you wanted practical, you wouldn't be after a saloon. I'd get one of them, either a late R-Sport, or simply a Portfolio.

Just do a Vcheck & it'll show if it's been used as one.I'd say the S C;ass is the pick but go & take a look at the XJ as it's a very good alternative:
