2016 Astra SRi Nav Ecoflex 1.0 or 208 2015 Gti?
Discussion
Hey!
My trusty Peugeot 207 (58 plate) is getting expensive to maintain and fix the things that are going on it so looking to swap it out.
Currently torn between the two vehicles in the title I have seen and test driven both. The 2016 Astra has done about 10,000 miles more than the Peugeot 208 GTI (astra is 54,000 miles, GTI is 44,000). The GTI is about 1,000 pounds more than the Astra, and is the post-facelift (just on the cuff of the swap so has 205bhp/208ps). I understand there were some reliability improvements here.
Feel very different sides on the spectrum, sensible and reliable Astra, vs a much more exciting GTI. Taking into account insurance and tax variations, the GTI is about 600 more a year on those.
My sensible side is leaning towards the Astra, the GTI seems like it might get expensive to maintain, and the Astra has Android Auto and felt like a much older sophisticated car. But the GTI was such a fun drive and the poke was amazing.
Would love some thoughts on what you would go for!

I can't personally see the astra being any more reliable than the Peugeot.
The astra is bigger and cheaper to run but that's a 1.0 in a fairly large car, I know it has a turbo but in most situations the larger engine of the Peugeot will be much better
Also .. no one ever had a astra ecoflex on their bedroom wall... I bet many people had Peugeot gtis

The GTI is obviously the better car, but I think you should take a look at the 1.6T Astra as it'll be a closer to the GTI in terms of performance but not chassis wise.
What GTI is it? Prestige/Peugeot Sport/GTI
I'd say take a look at the 1.6T Astra GTC, they're a good steer (they have the same geometry set up as the VXR) not as sharp as the 208 but a nice warm hatch:
