Advice for a new car
Discussion
Hey everyone- another one of these threads but after some advice input as to be honest trying to work out what’s best is stressing me out. What should be an enjoyable experience just isn’t.
Currently driving a Saab 93 but been hit with a big bill and it feels uneconomical to deal with so need to replace the car. Gutted.
Criteria.
- mainly work car. (Between 15-20k miles per year total including social etc)
- needs to be economical
- maximum budget of 12-13k
- ideally a bit of space for family (got three kids)
So have been looking at Skoda Octavia, Kia Ceed, Volvo v40, Nissan Qashqai, and well I am a bit stuck. Ideally don't want massive mileage, and want it to be no older than 2016.
Any other cars i should be looking out for. Or any advice on any of the above.
Thanks in advance and will keep it updated if I go for one

What's the bill on the 9-3, that's made it uneconomical? I ran one for a few years, a TTid, they are good solid cars usually, and cheap to fix being GM, and prices are good on them at the moment I've seen - may be better devil you know especially in this market.
Price are so inflated at the moment, out of the fire into the pan quite possibly, but, if you want a new car, that's a good enough excuse

I'd be looking at two cars in particular.
Vauxhall Insignia in Elite Nav:
https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202305227...
Or SRI VX Line:
https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202304176...
https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202304055...
https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202302284...
Mondeo Titanium Edition:
https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202303185...
https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202305267...
Both are economical & have sensible maintenance costs, the Insignia edges it as it's a newer design & has a bit more space.
A leftfield option if you don't mind a CAT N is the Ford Edge it'll be all the car you need as they're great space wise:

There is loads of choice, you could get a new shape (2016) A4 for that money which has Android Auto/Apple CarPlay if that is important. The automatic gearboxes are very good for a commuter.
Same with a 3 series BMW, although that age won't have Android Auto or CarPlay. Again, very economical, amazing ZF gearbox.
You can't really go wrong in that car bracket, of any manufacturer. It's so competitive that all the cars have to be good. Comes down to personal choice really. Personally I'm a huge fan of the A4, with an auto box. Economical, reliable, new enough to have the toys which you want, comfortable seats and nice cabin.
