High Rate Road Tax

Hoping someone will be able to help, I have never purchased a car before that has fallen into the newer rules of car tax, over £40k and there is a £500ish surcharge.

The car was registered 08/06/2018, if the car is not taxed for a couple of weeks, can the higher rate of tax be avoided? Or if I tax it monthly will I pay 1 month of higher tax and it will go back down again?

You appear to have not understood how the luxury tax rules work either. It is 5 years after the initial first year. Your car won't be exempt until June 2024.

I didn't want to pay a years worth of the higher rate when it is about to end

Tax it from 1st June. Before that, you'll be paying a full month for the last few days of this month.
If you don't pick it up / tax it until 1st July, your yearly rate will be less as the June 24 month will be at the standard rate, and it seems that is something the DVLA computer can cope with.

for general public - you can simply get the date from gov.uk by putting in a registration

In terms of the car specs etc - that be being nosy on some software :-)

Out of curiosity, does the 'luxury tax' only apply to ICE vehicles, or are new EVs over £40k affected too?

Odd, a car check comes up with 600, yet a brochure says 650.

But your right, also called BMW Isetta 600, (582cc), in production until 59, and tad over 34k made.

So anyone planning to buy a £41k+ EV (which let's face it is what most of
the half decent ones cost these days!) needs to purchase it by March 31st
2025 at the latest to save themselves over £2500 in 'supplemental' VED...

Only new ones from 2025 pay the "luxury VED" premium. It is not backdated on existing EVs, which just pay standard rate whatever their value.
