How long before an ex-lease comes to market?
Discussion
So handed my iD3 back on 14 April and I am just curious to see what it's advertised for after my "offer" from VWFS.
Just looked for the car on autotrader with no luck. Checked it's tax status and is showing as untaxed since 18 April.
Is it usual for a car to spend this long off the market?

A month isn't very long, and also not every secondhand car is advertised on Autotrader. It won't be taxed if its up for sale, but will need MOTd if it's old enough.
I too like to try to find out what my old cars go up for sale just for interest in what a good or bad deal I got for it. I've come across all but of them eventually (try a Google search of the numberplate - both the text and image search sometimes find it).
I've no idea what happened to the other car, which has never been MOTd or taxed since we got rid of it. It was unlikely to have been scrapped given it wasn't that old and we got several thousand for it, so it must either have been exported or perhaps it fell off the transporter and got written off while not on the road.....

I recall stories from when cars where in plentiful supply of ex-lease cars being stockpiled on airfields and gradually released to the market over many monhts. As used EV prices have been dropping maybe the same is happening to them now?Sheepshanks said:

Still not for sale and showing as untaxed, guess you are right and VWFS are stockpiling it. Every funder has different processes at end of contract but they do try and control supply so they don’t hit values.
VWFS are one of the slowest to dispose of return cars where as Lex Autolease normally shift them quite quickly.
An example is ALD had a deal on launch spec Polestars in October 2020 and cars that went back in September/ October 2022 have not been disposed of yet and are probably now worth about £15k less.

Nice find. hadn't done a reg search in a couple of weeks. ThanksThey offered it to me for £25499 back in April and there was no negotiation. Seems i was wise to say no (or they were foolish to not offer a competitive price).

if those were lease it would seem that most decided to extend their lease as the current climate is nowhere near what it was and they might come up this oct/Nov...unless you know they were returned.VWFS are one of the slowest to dispose of return cars where as Lex Autolease normally shift them quite quickly.

We returned a couple of them, can only think ALD and Polestar had an agreement to prevent flooding the market as I recall there were about 400 cars on the original promotion (spread over 2-4 year contracts).Alphabet / BCA seem to be trying to control the market to some extent. We've returned over half a dozen cars recently to them and none have made a forecourt yet (I returned an Arteon in March and it's still not appeared).
One car was 'returned' in March and they've not even bothered to collect it from the office, strange.
