I’m in the fortunate position where I have a budget of around 100k to spend on a weekend fun car. I think I’ve narrowed it down to either :

Porsche 991/992 Carerra 4S

Audi R8 V10 plus.

I feel the Audi has a bit more drama and the likes of that V10 engine are not long for this earth in car manufacturing. Any comments of either car? I’m not really interested in Mclarens as they’ve never really flicked my switch.

There's plenty of tasty metal around that price, if you've narrowed down to Porsche or Audi, I'd say check out a 991.1 GT3.

Personally I'd go for a classic because if its weekend and fair weather use only, your car will probably lose little to no value.

Early M cars, Ford Cosworths etc

If those are the 2 choices for your weekend then I’d go V10 R8.
You see less of them and great to drive either when pottering or driving hard.
And it’s a V10 on a car very soon to be discontinued.
That was my thinking early last year when I took delivery of one of the last Carbon Black specs.

If your dropping £100k cash and want to retain most of the value then GT3 Porsche would be high on my list.

I would go for a GT4.

R8 V10 for me over a 911…wouldn’t rule out a McLaren until you’ve driven one, running costs will be higher than R8/911 tho. Aston Martin Vantage either new shape V8 or old V12S also worth considering at the price point, the latter has a truly epic engine.

I looked at both of those options a couple of years ago before buying my current car;

Porsche, I just didn't gel with it, though it wasn't a GT3 or similar. Lovely car, well put together and drove great but just no fizz to me and did everything too well.
R8 V10, I drove the coupe as the latest soft top was out of budget. Again an awesome drive and that V10 is truly a work of art. But they are fairly common place on the roads and I like something different. Also interior wise it didn't feel special enough, like the Porsche in that regard

In the end I went Mercedes and am now in a 2017 AMG GTC. Absolute beast of a car, TTV8, 4WS but RWD, incredibly playful, more luggage space than the other 2 (even more if you want a coupe) and I rarely see another on the road.

100k will be hard pressed to get a GTR but will get you the GTC which is 90% of what the R is and IMHO a better road only option if you're not going to track it.

We’ve already got 6 various classic and vintage cars, I’ve just never had a modern performance car.

Nice ! What is the rest of the collection ?
If you’ve never had anything modern then the R8 will spoil you almost to the point you might find it a bit boring
As suggested by someone else perhaps going the Aston route is also something to consider ?
They won’t need as much tinkering as your current collection but they will definitely have niggles to sort unlike the Audi.
I’ve had a manual V8S and a Sports shift V12S which as a weekend car would also tick the box nicely and your budget is easily sufficient to find a good one.

Have a look at AMG GTS / GTR (if the budget stretches to it). Plenty of theatre, very competent, not too flash and residuals will be pretty good.

V12 Vantage for me but out of your 2 choices I'd go Audi just because they're not going to make an more
NA V10's.
