Which £6k family motor?

Sister looking for new car for daily duties inc work commute. 3 kids ages 7-13. Wants a car not too big but big enough! for kids paraphernalia shopping etc. maybe even local 5 day holiday trips. Doesn’t want estate car (too big / long). Reliability / longevity important, currently has Honda FRV which has served well but now battered to death and too big.

I think petrol. Manual / auto probably not important. Would like to have parking sensors / camera if poss! She liked the look of Ford Kuga to give you an idea but never been in one (and I haven’t looked at prices yet)

Any suggestions? I like jap stuff, maybe VW; I’m not keen on Vauxhall.

I can’t stand them but she’d probably like a Qashqai if she likes the Kuga. Estates or saloons are good choices though, an Avensis could be a wise buy, or there’s things like Skoda Superbs, Volvo S60/V60/V70, Focus Estate.

I don’t know if an average car like a Mazda 323 or vw golf etc would be too small. Will check out dusters

Thanks zx10! Might have to get her to stretch the budget a bit to £7k if poss. Is there anything a wee bit smaller than the MPV type vehicles? The 500x looks about the right size

Excellent thanks. Though now she is considering pcp as she’s realising how much secondhand cars have gone up these days! So now is saying mini-suv type (is that kuga sized? ) and extend the budget (not been given the max yet!). So a moving target

Good to know the fiat is reliable these days though. Yes I’d probably go for the civic myself but I think she has designs on something newer.

They are a lot more now than they were, but a Dacia Duster or Jogger on PCP should still be very affordable. I was close to buying a Jogger for £200 ish per month, but it was a little small for all our car seats at the time. Might fit this scenario though if she can get past the brand name.

Alternatively, what about PCP on a used Kia Niro? Could get something a few years old, still with Kia warranty.
