Interesting car that copes with pot-holed roads! £15-35k
Discussion
I currently own 4 vehicles and the most enjoyable to use on the road is my old T4 Kombi running on all terrains treads!
I am thinking about selling the other 3 and buying one 'enjoyable' car that isn't going to smash my teeth to pieces or break rims on the shocking state of these roads. One of my cars is an AMG E63 that doesn't ride too badly but I am constantly worried about cracking one of the forged 19" rims.
I have driven a Macan quite a bit, they are nice but I don't really feel any desire to own one (or any SUV)
Classics are always of interest and sometimes the small diameter wheels and chunky sidewall help iron out the bumps.
my driving is a daily commute of about 15miles (little / no traffic jams) and the occasional weekend jaunt to car meets. I am quite happy using the T4 when the weather isn't great so the 'new' vehicle doesn't need to be a daily however I would want to be able to get decent usage out of it - not just sunny / 0% of rain days...
garage tinkering has been a big draw to owning my previous classics however the older I get the less interested I am in long restorations or lots of problems!
I would be very interested in suggestions (even the obvious one - stick 18's on the AMG!)
budget is flexible however the closer to £15-20k always sits comfortably in my mind.

I think you are on the right lines thinking about downsizing the alloys.
I would be tempted by something like a Suzuki Swift Sport, they are only light, so have small brakes, therefore easy to fit smaller wheels - I think the Nurburgring rental cars use a 15 inch (from the standard 17s).
A small hot hatch would fit nicely with the van and Mercedes.
