Hi all, I’m in the massively fortunate position to be able to buy either of the above cars. Both similar years (2017) , similar mileage. Have driven both and flip- flopping between both. Now I appreciate no one can say with any degree of certainty how or where the market is going to go, but an element of decision making is always around retained value. Any thoughts as to which would retain the higher value after say 3 years and another 18k miles. It’s a DB11 with moderate spec in a good colour, vs a PDK 4s cabriolet. Both with around 18k miles at present. Like I say, I know there’s no absolutes but history points to the 911 being likely to lose a little less- I know I’ll probably take a bath on both and I accept that, but a shallower bath is always appreciated! Thanks all!
If I cared only about future depreciation, I'd gamble my money on the 911 vs the DB11.
If I was choosing with my heart, I'd go for the Aston all day long. I feel like I see far too many 911s of all varieties on a daily basis, Astons always stand out and I just think they're beautiful cars (Though the DB11 is a little more marmite).
I'm assuming you're needing the four seats, otherwise I'd be going for one of these:

And you are bang on. I’d actually prefer the vantage over both of them but need the back seats for occasional use which changes the focus slightly. If I was choosing with my heart, I'd go for the Aston all day long. Drive both and decide which one works best for you. Or take the opinions of strangers on the internet. Despite owning a number of Porsche I really like the look of the DB11 though I have never driven one.
Re-read OP's post... He's already driven both and is still struggling to decide between the two.I made choice between these two a couple of years ago...actually included the Vantage in my comparison back then. I went for the DB11, because of the V12. For me anyway, the only other post 2016 V12s worth lusting after are the 812 Superfast/GTC4 Lusso which are a different budget.
The only 911, I would choose over a DB11 would be a GT3.
Worth watching Harry's and Chris Harris's videos on the cooking DB11 back from 2016.
Since you're asking financially, I'd say the Porsche will hold more value.
Astons generally have poor residuals, V12V apart.
911s generally have quite good residuals especially recently.
echo this.
Had a DB9 which had a big bath with. A number of 911's which were more like a shower or a walk in light rain then a bath. I also preferred the driving dynamic of the 911's.
Admittedly not driven a DB11 but did with the Vantage which had the AMG 4litre which at that time I had an AMG E63 with the same engine. The Vantage did feel great but I do love 4wd cars when you get into reasonable amount of power for everyday driving.
So a 4s 911 of some description would get my vote to match your comments.
991 Targa 4s is my current.

What kind of occasional use? Unless it's for small kids the rear seats will be pretty useless on both.BoRED S2upid said:

If residual wasn’t an issue there’s a big argument for the V12 while it’s still a thing and before we are all driving EV’s.
I've done circa 13k in 2 yrs in mine. A sale to WBAC would result in a loss of circa £11k. Seems decent value to me. If residual wasn’t an issue there’s a big argument for the V12 while it’s still a thing and before we are all driving EV’s.
Vantage with the C63/E63 engine doesn't compare to the DB11 V12 imo (last car was an E63).
Guess it depends on what you enjoy in terms of driving. I would assume the DB is a lot more GT like than the 911 and probably less fun / sharp on a country road, but more comfortable for longer distances.
I would buy an FF over both - V12, 4WD, 4 proper seats and surprisingly agile given the weight
Good luck - don’t think you can go wrong with either one of your choices
I suspect the 911 will hold value better / bottom out at a higher floor

How old are you? I'm young 40s and it'd be a 911 Targa for me. If I could make the numbers work I'd be straight in one.
When my dad was looking for something recently I pushed him towards the DB11 (but went M850i in the end).
