I have an appointment booked to sell to WBAC. They are offering a high valuation.
The car hasn't been washed for a month, it's pretty filthy outside.
Will this help them miss any small scratches/chips etc?
Does anyone have any tips? I've booked the last appointment of the day, hoping the chat will be impatient and just want to leave for the day.
The car is in very good condition, but I'm just trying to reduce the chances of them knocking the price down too much,
Are there set prices for deductions for things like scuffed alloys? Can anyone share this?

Last one i sold, car was filthy and they barely gave it a glance. No deductions.
Time before that, i thoroughly cleaned the car and they guy went full CSI on it. Fortunately i had declared all the marks / scratches, so there wasn't much they could find beyond what i already reported.

Very similar story here. 1st car, glanced at and had about £250 knocked off the £8k online price. Second car, different chap, spent ages and tried to knock £1k off the £7k price. In the end it was reduced by £750. This was still more than the trade in valuation. Last one i sold, car was filthy and they barely gave it a glance. No deductions.

I'd go for clean, but not too clean unless your car is immaculate.
If it's filthy they may not give you top dollar if they feel they have to factor in a margin for potential damage they can't see. However, I took my car to them spotless and they took money off for a tiny bupber scratch on an otherwise pretty flawless car (5 months old) which was annoying, but they missed scratches on the passenger door mirror and the offer overall was the best I got anywhere.
When they put damage into the system, it seemed to deduct a set amount dependent on what it was for.

The B&Q is incredibly quiet and I'd imagine WBAC being even quieter.
He said to me not to run a quote online and take it to him direct as they have targets they have to meet and it makes it difficult if they over price it.
We changed our mind about selling the car in the end, but my take on it was that because he's quiet he'd be more likely to have to take it and he was asking me a favour rather than trying to help me out.

Good experience here. I cleaned and detailed the car inside and out, declared no damage and the guy inspected in a total downpour. He didn’t even have a gazebo. It was ridiculous.
He found a small bit of curbing to one diamond cut rim which I’d cosmetically repaired but to be fair it wasn’t perfect. If I remember he said it’s a standard £150 deduction, but he had 10% leeway so he made it £135. I was happy with that given that I’d got £500 off for the same damage when I bought the car a year earlier!

I wasn’t happy with that so I did it myself online when I got home. I still don’t know how they get away with that because it’s quite clearly against the instructions on the V5.

My pal has found this out today when he tried to sell them his 3 series.
They would not budge on this admin fee, they refuse to drop it down to the £49.99 admin fee.
He didn’t sell it to them, it’s now booked in for the Evans Halshaw buying service tomorrow who are offering more with no admin fee.
No idea why he didn’t take it to them in the first place?

I sold mine as a grade 2 and it was perfect for a three year old car. And I mean perfect. Geezer in the van told me grade 1 and the price they offered online was only really for a brand new car. Which mine obviously wasn’t as it was three years old! He couldn’t even justify why it wasn’t grade 1 but I couldn’t be bothered to argue with him as the price was still good. Would use again.
I’ve also sold to EH who were very competitive.
It just depends which one wants your car the most and go with them.

as a counter to the above... just popped our car onto the EH valuation, they were £4k off WBAC and £6k off Motorway If your car is valued above £10k, they charge you a £99.99 admin fee

Really?I had a look at Motorway. They basically auction your car and you're expected to allow (some) dealers to take it away and pay later.
WBAC - declare all damage, turn up, bought by them.
I've no axe to grind here, but WBAC has proved very good when I have used them. You know what you're getting and from whom.
I recently used "The Car Buying Group" - no affiliation whatsoever but they were, by FAR the best to deal with, stuck to their prices and were prompt with payments. On a Sunday as well if memory serves.
This was on a £1k snotter of a Pug 508 that was far from in auction grade state. Was rusty, had mismatched tyres, a puncture, sketchy history and i also couldn't find the 2nd key on the day of pickup. I was prepared for a hefty slash of the price for that but nope, they estimated £1k when i did it online, turned up with a flatbed, did their checks, filled in the V5 stuff and paid me the full £1k.
A quick check shows me the car was taxed mid-May, a month after i sold it so it must've been moved on at an auction.
Anyway, i think the issue with WBAC / Motorway etc. is that they also own the auctions (or at least i think that's true for WBAC) which gives them a bit more leverage on screwing down the price to the punter moving the car on and is looking for zero hassle.
Process to get a quote was langthy, lots of detail needed but ultimately it makes sure everyone knows exactly what's happening throughout.
