MOT advisories?

Just taking a look at a 2010 Mazda6 on autotrader listed for £3.5k with 94,000 miles. Tempted to go for it but only issue is that in 2020 it had an advisory for exhaust system being corroded and suspension corroded (https://www.check-mot.service.gov.uk/results?registration=WF60WRA). Does this mean it was fixed or is it just a dodgy MOT?

May just be the testers opinion. My old Land Rover had an advisory of rusted brake pipes, which I queried. The tester said they were fine, but as it was such an old car he had to put something.

Unless the car is in front of us to see, how would we know?

anyones guess ...maybe just a picky tester

look under it yourself and see if the condition matches the asking price

Rear pads weren't visible in 2020 and then failed in 2023, also no MOT for 2021 & 2022, so assume it's been unused for a period, then my guess would be that the car's been sitting around and the corrosion was relatively minor and not attended to.

Only way to know though is to look/ask, and also why no MOT for 2021 & 2022.

Failures such as "Nearside Front Body has a sharp edge caused by damage bumper (6.1.C.1) DANGEROUS" doesn't make me think that car has been particularly well looked after.

you are worried about a corroded exhaust 3 years ago?

145k and 19 years on my E36. No exhaust issues at all (it did go for at least half that life with one exhaust hanger theta-ring missing.

Yes, but there is rusty and "rusty"
One means surface rust on a silencer, the other means you can put your hand through it.

TBH for a 10 year old car, I'd forget about advisories on the MoT and just go by how it looks/drives in the flesh. If the exhaust was rusty three years ago it may have been replaced, repaired, or had nothing at all done. Impossible to tell unless you look.
