Fast Uneconomical Appreciating Estate Car £30k

Hi there, been a long term lurker on this forum but have decided to finally start an account and ask some of the seasoned veterans on here for some advice.

I currently own an 07 rs4, an 02 m5 and an e46 m3.

I have used cheap bank loans since i graduated from uni and own all the above outright with no debt.

I have been driving a golf r for the last 3 .5 years which was leased as it was stupidly cheap, went against my old "philosophy" of car buying but the deal was ridiculous (at the time).

I extended the lease for a further year, out of warranty as i was "expecting" the second hand car market to crash which as we have all seen has not yet "began".

So my requirements are simple, german, fast, uneconomical as i do very little mileage, isofix, and estate as i need a lot of room.

I also would like it be something that won't lose a shed load of value and might appreciate slightly over say next 10 years?

Problem is i have got used to the "modern" tech in the golf, as in high beam assist, active cruise control etc.

Looking for some inspiration??!?!?

And final point no diesels!!!!

Best options are going to be C63 or RS4/6 Avant, or the M5 mentioned above if you can find one

Other than what's been mentioned above (RS6 Avant/CLS Shooting Brake) Ive looked at 540i estate and X5M. Head says X5M, heart says RS6

An extremely rare car that i cannot find which i can only see going up in price is a Mercedes R63
at current there are none for sale in the UK but keep looking and one will show up. they are around £30k+

they do, but they are ruinously expensive - i have got quotes for e.g. £4k a year for a c63 in the past. There's a table on the MB website that shows you the fixed prices

If you buy an approved used Mercedes you'll get a 2 year warranty.

30k, but more likely 25k will get you a last of the line W204 C63.

Doubt you'll lose much on one of them.

Wowzers - that's steep, I'm sure BMW is far cheaper for M cars. Though 2 years thrown in for an AUC might be enough time for me as I get bored easily...

You can get a lot of Panamera Turbo for £30k and these seem to be holding steady at that money. It's not an estate but pretty practical, big hatch and the seats fold down.

RS4 or C63 are the obvious answer if appreciation and fast are key criteria.

Slim pickings in the performance estate world. Might be worth perusing the fast estates thread for inspiration but I doubt you're going to find much that isn't already on your radar somewhere. I spent a while playing around with various options before opting for the utterly predictable Audi S4 option as I was sick of looking for unicorn BMW's!

The not depreciating and mod cons is tricky to hit in one go because most newer stuff is likely to depreciate for a little while before bottoming out and who can really know when that will be?. E61 M5 probably bottomed out ages ago. I love them but they seem entirely capable of causing financial ruin and the gearbox is crap/an acquired taste, depending on how polite you're being. There is the odd manual swapped car around or you could do that yourself which at least gets rid of the gearbox short comings. There are aftermarket options to bring the idrive up to date with OE style replacement touchscreens that incorporate carplay etc.

Some other options that labour more on the 'holding money' aspect rather than mod cons.
Audi RS4 B7 - These are pretty special in a way that most Audis aren't.
E39 Alpina 4.6
E61 Alpina B5 (If you can find one!)
F11 550i (they do exist)
You see the odd converted M3 Touring around but you'd want to buy carefully.
XFR-S Estate - again if you can find one and I have no idea what they sell for.

If it was my money I’d get the cleanest c5 audi rs6 I could find and have a slush fund for the gearbox and suspension if they need doing.
I can’t see them getting any cheaper and they are old enough now that most of the bad ones have died an expensive death.
