60 mile round trip : Passat, A3 , v40 s60 or…???

You are unlikely to find any of those for your budget sub 30k miles and newer than 2017. Either up your budget, or accept that you are going to be getting something slightly older or with higher miles.

How about something like a Ford Focus (some nice cars available in budget), or maybe a Skoda Octavia (if you want something bigger - but slightly over budget).

Make sure you purchase from a reputable dealer, and remember that service history is key. Try and get a year or two of warranty thrown in, whatever car you decide to purchase.

I sold my 100000 mile 2017 (66plate) Passat for £12500 before prices went mental.

Saying that. I would happily do the milagr you are suggesting in it. It was a staggeringly good car at sitting on the motorway. Was just very boring.

Volvo's are less affected by mileage than a lot of makes.

I've had several (V60, S40, V70, 2 x XC90s) and taken all over 100k miles with no major issues.

Another vote for Insignia, perfect for long miles and a lot more car for the money. I don't agree on the Passat, hated my 2016 one, a lot of body roll, not particularly efficient, ugly and slow. The mark 2 Passat from around ?2002 was far better.
