Hi all

Created a new account to keep this anonymous as possible.

So ordered a Porsche Taycan Cross through my company salary sacrifice back in September 2021. Agreed a price monthly price after some negotiation.

After multiple push backs on delivery date I get an email this week saying Porsche are allocating a build space shortly. However since I ordered it Porsche have put the price of the car up by £2700 and it's non negotiable that i have to pay for it (apparently it's only Porsche that do this..IDK) . The company i'm using are saying they're wavering some of this cost but have requested a £90 per month (gross) which equals £3240 over the term.

They're also stating another reason for the increase is due to the interest rates increased over this period. To be fair the EV company in their FAQs state that in some instances the price of the car may go up if dealers put their prices up but it doesn't mention anything about interest rates.

Has anyone had any experience of this before. In grand scheme of things it's not massive jump but it feels like they're just trying to squeeze more money out of me.

Any advice welcome.

Thanks

EV_Buyer.

Big thread elsewhere about Porsche doing this, it seems the price and Apr aren't fixed until the car is close to build. stshow imho as they are gaining from these long wait times that are their own fault!

Seem to remember a thread on here about it happening to Land Rover models. I think they ordered a certain trim, then LR decided they were no longer making that trim, accept the new trim and higher price or lose the car you’ve already been waiting ages for. All in the small print was the gist a think.

I don’t think there is anything you can do about it but your lease company seems to be trying their best for you. I’d like to say it’s just Porsche but just look what Tesla did to their customers who bought a new model y and the very next day they cut the price by £5000. Ford then did the same to their customers. It seems very cut throat out there. I suppose you are able to walk away if you wanted to ?

Range Rover / Jaguar does this bullst as well.

My g/f and I went to test drive a new Velar, but totally lost interest in buying anything from JLR after the salesman told us

- We will have to wait over 1yr for a new car
- The price will increase and we will pay it
- Obviously, our PX will devalue in the 1year wait, so expect to take a hit on that upon delivery

Manufacturers can get fked who do this. They lost the sale, I ended up buying an M2 and my g/f is buying a brand new Cupra Formentor VZ3 310bhp (3month wait).

Price increase and you paying it, I can see an issue, the other 2 points though, I cannot!

I'm fine with our PX devaluing, that's totally understandable. But I can't get my head around how we would sign a contract and it wouldn't secure today's price. Maybe I'm totally out of touch with buying new cars (most likely), but this practice is just unfair and dealers only do it as they can get away with it.

Anyway, I'm much happier in my M2 than driving a Velar smile

Their car their rules basically. They don’t want the sale badly enough.

Walk away and buy something else! That’s the only way to make them (eventually) change their ways.

Do what Networkgeek did!

I had this while waiting for a new Jeep Wrangler last year for Mrs Lemonslap, price went up and so did the interest rate on the finance, I was constantly having to chase for updates… In hindsight they did me a favour as I cancelled the order and brought a X5M instead…

This in essence! With LR you just pay a deposit to reserve your place in the waiting list for the opportunity to purchase the car at whatever is the list price at the time it becomes available. VW, on the other hand, will freeze the price you agree to pay at the point of ordering. I have current personal experience of both situations by the way.

Thanks all. I've spoken to the lease company they're getting back to me Monday. I understand the price increase. My challenge is the £2700 extra car cost is resulting in near £3600 over the term and they'er saying they've wavered some of the cost. My counter argument is of that £2700 not all it will be lost in car value in 3 years, Taycans are still 18month waiting list and they retain 70% value over 3 years...
