EVs... no one wants them!
Discussion
If you're thinking of trading in your EV anytime soon don't bother!
2 VW dealers this am wouldn't touch my Cupra Born. I have never in 23 years had a dealer refuse to take my car in part exchange, never!
Dealers simply don't want EVs and I have to admit that of course it's scaring me as I need to sell but the loss is far too great to bear.
I hope the situation improves over the next 6 months or so....

Did they say why?
I can only hazard a guess that there is a current over supply or impending oversupply.
I wouldn’t be surprised as car manufacturers have went balls deep in making them and contrary to what people are saying on PH of car manufacturers changing business models that’s just not possible.
It’s called mass production for a reason.

So am I.... People are too scared to buy them at the moment due to energy prices apparently.
Personally I think the media killed EV desirability over Christmas.
I'd agree qith that, the lines of people queuing for public charging points at motorway services will have had abig impact on anyone looking to buy imminently that may have been on the fence. Personally I think the media killed EV desirability over Christmas.
Dealers have always been as reactionary and kneejerk as consumers.
When diesels where castigated years ago, people chopped them in immediately and dealers paid low prices for them. Even my sister who is an intelligent professional running her own company lobbed her diesel in for a petrol SUV.

I filled up with unleaded (ICE car before anyone asks) at an Esso station in a midlands town last week at £1.41 a litre - the convergence of fuel/energy costs must be having an effect on the desirability of EV’s and willingness to change.
I owned an EV for two months late last summer and spent £98.00 on public charging for 1,600 miles travel but those days are gone.

And yet the government are pushing everybody down this road with new ICE sales being banned in 2030. I suspect that the 2025 Euro 7 regulations are going to push manufacturers to go full EV before the 2030 ICE ban.Personally I think the media killed EV desirability over Christmas.
But are we getting to a situation where the early adopters, those excited by new tech and those rich enough to have one as a second car are starting to run out?
Tesla have lowered the price of their cars as I assume sales are starting to slow down. Ford have lowered the price of the Mach E because they claim they want to get as much as the market as possible.
Are we going to get in a situation in a year or two where manufacturers are building more EVs than they can sell and the crazy leases will start again?
I can't help but think that the government are pushing EVs like they did diesel and looking back in five or ten years we will realise that was a massive mistake.
I agree the media have whipped up some anti-EV sentiment. However, people are now starting to realise the real-world constraints of EVs.
My mate who is a Tesla fan and has a Model 3 Long Range as a company car has started being vocal about how its range has massively dropped off recently and has affected his long distance drive to the office a couple times per month. He is now considering a big diesel saloon when his Tesla goes back later this year and he gets an allowance instead of a company car.
My OH has an e-208 on salary sacrifice which goes back in November. We won't be having another EV to replace it as things stand.

Doesn't it currently cost roughly £50 for an 80% top up of teslas at motorway services? This is what scared me off...that and winter range in cold temperatures
You wouldn't fill up with Petrol or Diesel at a motorway services and not expect to get bent over eitherNot sure if there's the same infrastructure though for pulling off the motorway and going to the nearest local garage to re-charge

Yep, we aren't buying EV's, not too long ago we couldn't get enough of them and have zero issues selling them, we have a few ZOE's that have been stagnant and dropping £1k per month, if someone is looking to trade one in we will hit it hard, we have an iD 3 which has dropped £9k in the book in the past 4 months.
EV sales used and new has dropped off massively, which is going to be interesting as our new car targets are extremely EV heavy

I would also assume there is an expected influx of EVs coming off heavily supported salary sacrifice/ company car scenes in the next 12 months. These users will also be potentially moving back to ICE as the support is not as attractive, energy prices have gone up and free public charging is becoming a thing of the past. The last two reasons will also influence retail buyers.
