Other stuff to consider if you're looking at it from a numbers lens

Service costs and intervals

Resale, would a diesel lose more given the fuel costs are continuously rising.

just buy some thing older with a bigger engine for less money. Spend the cash you save on the car on petrol. is that the right way to do man maths?

I've recently switched from a C220 Diesel C Class to a 3.0V6 Petrol Turbo S5

My average MPG has dropped from about 38-40 to 23. However, the cost of the fuel has plugged a lot of the gap in real terms.

You can use this calculator here to try different MPGs/Fuel costs. Mine is about £1100 in the diesel and £1600 in the petrol. A small price to pay for double the power in my use case.

Similar conundrum here as I'm looking to get a 4-5 year old Skoda Kodiaq as a new family wagon and I'm currently trying to decide whether to go for one of the 2.0tdi options (150/190bhp) or opt for the rarer 2.0tsi 190.

Assuming you are refering to motorway mpg 10k PA cost

307hdi official 64mpg =(160*4.4)*£1.9= £1338
307 1.4 official 53mpg =(160*5.3)*£1.6= £1356

Or combined cycle

307 1.4 combined 43mpg = (160*6.56)*£1.6= £1679
307 hdi combined 57mpg =(160*4.9)*£1.9= 1489

Not much savings going with diesel, but nicer on long journey, also more to go wrong with diesel. Btw. My friend had one and it was POS. Hope it helps

The problem with all this is a broad assumption this gap will remain - my understanding is wholesale prices can shift again.

Sadly not! Traffic has been awful as has the weather since I bought it too. - Day: Eco mode, night: Dynamic
