Lease Car Collection
Discussion
Following the advice of some helpful PH members in my previous topic. I made sure I had a decent level of fuel and the original carpet mats had been dug out and placed back in the car.
so today was pick up day.
I had popped to chemist quickly and I walked home to find the chap from BCA taking photos of the car as he'd arrived a minute or so before I did.
He was a very pleasant guy, was there for about twenty minutes or so taking pictures and videos of the car inside and out.
Not at any time did he mention or reference any damage to the car. he then drove off in it saying he'll be dropping it off on Monday to the depot.
Shortly after he left, I received a vehicle condition report from BCA. the condition of the car was recorded as 'A'. The email also states, 'there will be links below if any images were taken when recording damage to the vehicle as part of your inspection'. There were no links to any photographs.
Now, this is where it gets weird:
1. There is a scribble in the 'customer signature' area notes above that state 'customer agrees with report condition signed', however, I done neither, I didn't sign anything, and I didn't agree or disagree with any outcome of the inspection.
2. There actually is some damage on the car which I was very confident would be highlighted upon inspection, there is a dent and scratch on the wing which is about 6in long and a small hole in the passenger seat (which the guy just seemed to throw his bag on and not look at)
so, I'm confused on what this means;
Am I out of the woods in terms of charges for damages to the car?
should I contact BCA to say I didn't sign or agree with anything inspected - I just don't want to go to BCA and say 'hey, your guy appeared to miss damage on my car'
or is the car inspected again later and that'll be when I get the bad news and then I've got to argue the toss about my signature being forged and agreement having been made up

Nice as he was he should have shared his findings and asked you to sign the ipad so that seems slightly odd. Having said that, as there are no damages highlighted in the report I would not worry about it. If they come back later and add the issues you are aware of you can then choose to accept or dispute them.
I suspect this is the last you will hear of it.

They could still try to hit you with damage charges for things noted when the car is at the depot.
However, you would then ask how can they prove that the damage they are charging for wasn’t caused by the BCA driver during the several days where he had the car, since whatever they hit you with wasn’t listed on the collection report.

This is what I suspected, but if I dispute the damage, I imagine they will produce the initial photos and videos the collection agent took. However, you would then ask how can they prove that the damage they are charging for wasn’t caused by the BCA driver during the several days where he had the car, since whatever they hit you with wasn’t listed on the collection report.
Which is why I don’t understand why no damage was mentioned on the condition report?
I took all my own pictures pre-inspection as there was some damage I knew would be picked up. When it got to the depot, I got a report stating more damage than there was…there were extra car park dings after it had sat at the depot for a couple of days. I contested and sent my pictures, agreed in the end to pay for the initial damage I knew about which was only £50-60 and much less than expected.
I can’t remember what was noted on initial collection but they did take some photos. If you have pics then that’s a help, if not and any extra damage is noted then contest it with them.

Thankfully I did go round the car just after it was valeted the day before collectionI can’t remember what was noted on initial collection but they did take some photos. If you have pics then that’s a help, if not and any extra damage is noted then contest it with them.
For now I’d stay quiet, it sounds like the guy has turned a blind eye and done you a small favour.
If you get a comeback on the damage you already knew about, in my opinion, you should take it on the chin.
To try and shift the blame on something you knew about to the collection chap, as I believe has been suggested above, is very scummy in my opinion.
Anything else I’d be pointing to the fact I hadn’t signed the report.

If I do get a comeback about the damage I know about I will pay up, I have a pot of money aside as I was expecting it, not to mention I would assume the photos and videos the guy took at collection would show the damage! If you get a comeback on the damage you already knew about, in my opinion, you should take it on the chin.

I’d have just rather known whether I am being charged or if I’m off the hook as opposed to the limbo I’m in!

OP the above couldn't be clearer! You are home free with nothing to pay. He 'signed' the form for you as there would obviously be no reason for you not to sign (i.e. agree to) the report. Edited by Canon_Fodder on Sunday 30th October 12:40
Depending on the finance company some do an inspection at time of collection where as others inspect the car on arrival at the auction centre. Either way you will get a notice for any damage recharges and if you believe its unfair you can dispute it and the finance company will need to produce evidence of the damage. If any pictures are taken at the auction house and not visible at your point of collection you can ask for it to be investigated further.
