Suzuki Swift (Non-sport)

Are these any good? I hear the Suzuki Swift Sports are decent hot hatches (ignoring a lack of power) but are the rest of the range any good? Thinking of the 1.4 2008 models rather than the latest version, and driving them down a twisty country road.

Short answer yes. They’re very reliable , although I believe gearboxes can be weak at higher mileages and they are very good to drive.
The 1.5 GLX is not too far off the Sport in terms of fun.

We had a 1.5 5 door for a few years.

I had a lot of fun in that. Was around 100hp. A reliable car with some mod cons (A/C, keyless entry, Isofix etc).

Clutch started slipping after I gave it death, every day for about 18 months. Apart from that, nothing else went wrong with it. Not surprising really, it's basically a Toyota engine.

Tops out at an indicated 120mph. Was a little steep on the road tax for what it was if I recall correctly.

I looked at the older Swift's when looking for a car for my wife, but they all had various issues so I ended up just paying a little more and getting a 2014 1.2 SZ3. Glad I did as for last four or five years other than routine maintenance all I've done is change the battery. Fantastically reliable cars and it's pretty nippy around town and fine on the motorway. Handles like a go-kart! lol

Have a 2012 12 SZ4 in family...great wee thing, 90k miles and sounds like new. Body and interior like new, but they rust underneath like most Japanese stuff in my experience.

We had a Mazda2 as well, good to drive, but very sore on tyres and nowhere near as solid/comfy to drive. It felt like a smaller car overall. Good fun as well though.
