Mid size hatchback suggestions
Discussion
Looking to replace my Octavia vRS with something of a similar size, and specifically with a decent sized boot (590 litres on the Octavia). Would like something with similar or faster acceleration, comfortable motorway cruiser, but cornering ability isn't really a priority as the majority of journeys will be motorway or urban roads. I also want seats with decent back support, and don't want an SUV.
Probably looking for a mild hybrid or PHEV as we tend to do some long motorway trips and I'm not sure I'm ready for electric yet, but PHEV would make sense for the wife's winter commute.

- I really the look of the Volvo V60 and thier hybrid options look decent. 20cm longer than the Octavia though.
- Another Octavia vRS is an obvious option, the hybrid loses a lot of boot space, but it's 20% cheaper than the V60
- Avensis is probably a decent if slightly boring option.
- Not a fan of BMW, I find them quite cramped inside for the size.
- Don't like Vauxhall seats.
- Leon, A3 and Golf have much smaller boots, but A4 might be worth a look.
- Focus also has a surprisingly small boot, and Mondeo's bigger than I want.
- French options seem to have all turned in SUV's or mini MPVs
Not sure how much you want to spend but here are some options, it sounds like you do a few miles so a diesel hybrid or a straight diesel sounds like it could be the pick drivetrain wise:

Thanks, I hadn't thought of the XF, will have to look in to them as another possible contender.
We don't actually do that much mileage, but the mileage we do tends to be long trips. We both cycle to work normally so it would be the Mrs doing 30km or so a day in the winter commuting, occasional weekend trips, and then longer drives to visit family ever so often (450 miles to the in inlaws) or holidays.
I'm not in the UK though so after an idea of what other cars to look at at the moment rather than specific cars. Probably looking at new.
Diesel hybrid makes a lot of sense to me, shame they've stopped making them now. If I went with the V60 I'd be tempted by the T6 though to do local mileage on electric.
