range rovers/land cruisers/disco/caravelle

So

I'd love a land cruiser, however they hold their money too well.

A short trip as a passenger in a friends car, was making me look at range rovers....

So, £28k, needs to tow a horse box and small horse, or trailer and motorbike. also just have the space for a family of 5.

we have an electric car for most stuff, this would be long journeys, towing, beach trips.

looking at v class(super rare), caravelle etc also... any thoughts?

The Range Rover linked does look lovely. With an official Land Rover warranty it could be tempting. Land Rover Online service history looks good, although first service should have been at 16k / 1 year and shows online at 26,480 miles / 12-2017 plus no fuel filter change detailed since then, which is concerning as it should be every 2 years.

How about a Land Rover Discovery 4 ?

A HSE is a nice place to be, 'tougher' than an FFRR, slightly higher towing limit, and 7 seats (when needed).

Unfortunately, values have jumped, £30k would get one of the very last (2016)

The challenge with V class and Caravelle type vehicles is as they age their van underpinnings start to show back trough - groans, squeaks, rattles and crashing suspension.

I recently went on a 2 hour journey out and then back into two different V class ‘taxis’ (a 2020 plate and 2016), the difference in comfort, noise levels and ride was night and day.

What does that tell you? People buy a land cruiser and they keep them! Why? Because they like them and they keep going.

Lots of threads on here about people who have bought Range Rovers - but oh! The reliability!

I have no wish to score cheap points, but I do believe you should think very carefully before buying a Landrover product.

Yeah, its a big worry really.

which is better(reliability wise) out of the LR products? I've not given up on a big on land cruiser amazon with the 4.2td engine. Just the mrs isn't onboard with it!

Freelander 2 would suit your needs, good reliability, high spec models are like a mini RR

The 4.4d has proven a very reliable & dependable unit, having a specialist near you rather than main dealer will normally mean if you do have any issues they're dealt with quicker & at a lower cost.

They're okay used if you treat the purchase price as the starting point and take it from there. You might be lucky, you might not.

We have just gone through a similar debate for our family of five and a rather nice FFRR. One thing to be aware of is that the autobiography “seat” in the middle of the rear bench is more than a bit underwhelming… Narrow and hard. Certainly not something they would be happy to travel on for a long trip (kids today!).

Having tried three different FFRR seat types from MY17 and MY18, I have given up and am looking at GLEs and Q7s.
