Desirable mainstream new cars. Do they exist?

With the strong prices of used cars (currently) I would be prepared to take a bit of a punt and put an order in for something new/unreleased particularly if there is a long waiting list which should hold up future residuals. Just been looking at various reports of 'new cars coming in 2022/2023' etc and there really doesn't seem to be anything much that appeals!
No real criteria other than 40-40k ish, 4 seats, pleasant to own, and suitable for daily driver duties.
Never had an EV and open to it, so currently maybe the planned Polestar 4 looks ok but could be something much sportier if anything springs to mind... Also in recent musings have been a Mustang GT, Audi S4, M240i (all new), or going used (which I'd not do for at least another 6 months or so) maybe a Lexus LC500, M340i, Giulia QF...
Ideas?!

I think you're holding the binoculars the wrong way round.With £40k to burn I'd be phoning round the dealerships and asking what they can offer you as a value proposition for early delivery. There are always cars in stock in the system that they're keen to shift - often just to keep the metal moving - not least because the dealerships are heavily bonused by the manufacturers to keep the numbers rolling. You'll just take a kicking if you try to order something new and sexy without even knowing what you're looking for.
My pick on this would be the new RR, however I think you've long missed the boat on getting a decent pre-order spot on that vehicle.
The same could be said on the Mercedes G class but again Mercedes stopped taking orders on the G Class back in January because they'd sold all allocations until Q1 2025.
For anything truly special the models are normally sold before us peasants are aware of its existence as repeat customers are given first refusal and all allocations are sold almost instantly.
