Mondeo or Superb

In a nutshell:
My 57 plate Mondeo's getting to it's last legs. Looking to replace it with either a newer one (2017 onwards) or a similarly aged Skoda Superb.
Needs to be Euro 6 Compliant due to travelling all over the country for work & to avoid all the ULEZ's that are going to pop up in the future.
Both the 2.0 diesel variants in both cases.
Budget £17k & cannot make my mind up.
Which one would you go for & why?

my dad has a 2007 Mondeo which is a nice enough barge - however we have a 2016 Superb and (even allowing for being nearly a decade newer) it is, imo, by far the superior car.
- more spacious
- more comfortable
- nicer dash layout
- more pleasant to drive
that's not to say that the Mondeo is a bad car, it really isn't, it's just that the Skoda is... well... ahem.... Superb

My Mondeo's been good but it's getting to the age where it's starting to cost me more & more to keep it on the road.
Torn between the newer Mondeo & Superb as they're pretty much the only cars that do what I want them to do & don't come only with keyless entry & start

17k could get you a Volvo V90, a step up in class from those 2.

Genuinely nice motors but I'd be lucky to get one with under 80k miles for my budget.

What would you say makes the Ford a better car?
I get what you mean about the plastics though as my Mondeo at the minute is the same. Trouble is under the bonnet it's that nasty cheap brittle pish which makes changing the headlight bulb a minefield. I'm assuming it's the same on the new one and the Skoda's a bit higher quality?

I’m mainly concerned with the VAG’s group engine and horrifically complicated electrical systems. I think the Ford is more mechanically and electrically robust. I think it’s a 50/50 with the plastic clips!What would you say makes the Ford a better car?

Interior wise, Skoda is definitely a nicer place to be.

Have you driven a mk5 mondeo? They are nothing special - a big disappointment compared to older ones.We have some as pool cars at work and I would much rather take the 1.6 tdi Leon pool car instead.
They are a right pudding of a car. The MY17 cars from mid 16 onwards (the ones that got sync 3) are better than the earlier ones but still are a bit naff. They were designed built for the US market then fudged for the European customers so aren’t good drivers cars at all.

Please don’t tell me the Focus is an average car to drive nowadays? Always the car I imagine I’d buy.
