OP didn't say if he was looking for the same kind of thing. Just more economical than an old 4.0 Jag which is pretty much anything. Fun/quick suggests a small car to me. R53 seems to fit quite well.

I think the TT is a great shout. I had an r53 and it's a great car too but pretty hard compared to the 2 cars you have. An early Z4 is worth a look too, surprisingly economical 6pots and very engaging to drive.

Left field suggestion but if you still want to retain some waft have a look at the D3 Audi A8. Available with a still quite refined 3.0 v6 diesel which is reasonably quick and the cars are imho a modern classic. They drive quite well but certainly not a b road blaster!

Having had an A6 Avant with the same engine, I’d wager it’ll do way over 18mpg unless you drive like a hooligan or have to deal with lots of traffic. The A6 is less cushy than the XJ but has just as much feel good factor from being really solid and high quality.

I’m rather enjoying my MG ZS180 - £5k buys you a mint Mk2 with change left over to get it close to perfect.

I’ve had several and saved my current example from the jaws of the crusher; a few hundred here and there and she’s now sorted.

V6 engine, 30MPG average, fantastic burbly noises and brilliant handling to boot - plus being mostly a 90s Civic at heart they’re fairly reliable

Thanks all, some great suggestions. Audi TT 225 has definitely been added to my short list! I don’t need much space so should probably stay away from buying another land yacht!
I do like the Mini R53, but having owned a R56 in the past with constant problems it’s out me off them a bit.

if you don't need 4 seats consider a Crossfire not the most inspiring steer and marmite looks but quick enough, comfortable, cheapish, reliable, (relatively) roomy, stick to the road like st to a blanket. Certainly preferred mine to the TT

Yes you are correct. The supercharger needs an overhaul, plus the spark plugs, air filter, O2 sensor. Any idea how much it costs? I’m guessing quite a lot!
