Car not recognised by DVLA

I finally found a used car on PistonHeads after months of searching online.

Before paying deposit I wish to do a hpi/history check.

When inputting registration number on DVLA website the car comes up unrecognised.

Also on RAC history checker the reg is unrecognised.

On a free third party site it recognised the reg but says the cars green and not red which it really is.

Any regular car buyers have any experience of such a situation? Any advice?

I can see road tax and insurance problems.

This usually happens when someone either puts on or takes off a private plate and databases of third party sites like HPI take time to update.

If you enter the current Reg directly into DVLA’s site for say an MOT or Tax Check, does it come up then?

Edit: sorry, I see you checked the DVLA already. That is an odd one.

I'd agree it's probably due to a plate retention. Otherwise it's fake!

The MoT details usually update quickly when a private plate transfer is carried out, but it's not old enough at '70 reg.

Is the car actually wearing that reg now? If the private plate is still assigned to the car, but the dealer/seller is giving you the originally assigned number whilst they get round to pulling off the private plate, then it will not be recognised until that actually happens.

Quite common cars to run a private plate, as others have said likely still registered on its private reg.

Do you have a link to the car, can only see 3 red Gr Yaris and none with that plate?

EF70 SCX now showing as a green GR Yaris Circuit registered in Feb 2020. A new V5c was issued on 12th July.

I don't know how cars are actually registered with the DVLA in the first place. I would have thought each car comes with a datasheet with its specification. But perhaps its done manually. Could it be that the person who registered the car was red/green colourblind? It's apparently a very common condition. As someone with "normal" vision, red and green are so different that it's difficult to imagine how they could be confused. But many people can't tell the difference.

I thought the first deliveries of GR Yaris's into the UK was late 2020? If Feb, it certainly wouldn't have been on a 70 plate? I assume you mean to write Feb 2021? Was green even a launch colour in any case?

Feb 2021. Car comes in flat white, Pearl white, black and red. There is a couple of green wrapped ones about.

You guys were right. Was on private plate and is due to be switched to normal plate before hand over.

And yes guys was Feb 21 registration.
