I’m partial to a hot hatch. Was thinking about getting another for the summer and maybe the odd track day. Searching the usual places and stumbled across a lovely Clio 200 with the Cup pack in Liquid Yellow. Few little mods to it, replacement gearbox and manifold under warranty. It’s priced at what seems a tad high to me (nearly £13k) but I’ve been reading a little on these and prices do seem to be firming up of late for nice, low mileage ones.
Next option could be be to buy back my tuned MK5 GTI Pirelli (brilliant car), or maybe go down the Honda route with an EP3 or something similar.
Was hoping to keep the budget below £10k if possible and sell in the New Year. If the Clio seems to be holding well, it might be more of a long term car to put away for a few summers.

That’s too high, even in this weird world. Also, while I adored mine, the gearbox is made out of soft cheese (including the replacement ones), and the shocks (on the cup at least) are made out of just slightly harder cheese. Lovely to drive though!

Having said that, I’d say go for it, but at a lower price. I think they’re one of the last of the ‘usable’ proper hot hatches, as opposed to a hyper hatch (if there is such a term) - quick enough to have fun in, but not stupidly quick (tried my sisters Focus RS and all I could feel was computers trying to keep me in a straight line).

I recently went from an Elise to an Up GTi, and it’s *almost* as much fun, and I can properly thrash it.

This is the one.

Looks like it’s had a Bilstein B14 kit fitted. Regarding the box, do you know if the warranty replacements were like for like, or if they were modified/upgraded in any way?
Seems to be a common theme on the boxes and you’d have thought a fix would have been in place. Or is that just wishful thinking?
PS, never owned a French car before.

Nice as that Clio might be I reckon you stand to lose 5-6k if you sell it next Jan.

Mk7 Fiesta ST maybe? (I have one)

Nice car and will be fun to drive, quite expensive though. You pay a big premium for liquid yellow/alien green/recaros for these. You could probably get one a different colour without the recaros for £7k and would be equally decent.

As a curveball, what about a Clio 182 Trophy? Haven't checked prices on these for a while, but with only 500 made and values rising it's probably a better investment than a 200. And of course it's arguably one of the finest hot hatches ever made.

Plus you'll get better fuel economy out of these than the heavier 200 which could be something to consider atm!
Seem to start at £12k and can be £20k plus for low mileage ones. Never knew they were at that price now.

A 16k mile one sold for over £45k a few months ago! Albeit number 1 and Renaults own, original press car.
