I'm looking at buying a 2010 Peugeot 308 1.6 VTi S 5dr Auto.

Run 50K miles (somewhat low for its vintage).

Any advice on potential problems, things to look out for on the inspection?

MOT history seems reasonable - main things that caught my attention are:

- an advisory that keeps popping up every MOT since 2019 - "Rear Exhaust mounting defective (6.1.2 (a))". Wondering if the exhaust mounting could need a £150-200 repair on my watch

- a major defect that's failed the car on two successive MOTs - "Offside Front Outer Drive shaft joint constant velocity boot split or insecure, no longer prevents the ingress of dirt (6.1.7 (g) (ii))". Looks like the owners repaired it at the cheapest option and got it moving. But again, wary of a £200-300 (?) permanent repair on my hands next MOT check

I’d swerve this model entirely if I were you. The 1.6 Prince engine has well documented issues with timing chain and high pressure fuel pump failure. Also I believe the gearbox is an automated manual, which isn’t the best.

What’s your budget?

Ouch.

My budget isn't great - ~£4-4.5K.

What do you mean by the 'Prince' engine?

That’ll have the best described as unsophisticated AL4 auto gearbox. Not PSA’s finest effort in terms of smoothness, driveability or fuel economy.
