Replacement for a Honda Civic?

Looking for some advice & here looked like a good place to start.

I have a 57 plate Honda Civic 2.2 Type S cDTI.
It's been remapped to around 190bhp.
It's done 150k miles.

I've had it 9 years & mainly used it for ferrying kids and dogs around, shopping trips and the odd motorway run.

So far it's been absolutely faultless and I enjoy driving it as it pulls really well all the way to the red line in every gear.
I've been getting around 38mpg from it.

In a year or so I think circumstances will dictate it has to be replaced.

I'll have around 7k to 8k to spend and wanted some advice as to what kind of motor would provide the reliability and 190bhp+ power (or be remappable to it)?

I've thought about a Merc C class or a Ford Mondeo but really have no idea so any help gratefully received.

Skoda vRS diesel (hatch or estate) has 184hp as standard. Can be easily tuned to, at least, 220.

I'd thought about this and might still go that way but maybe I fancy something different.

I'd say the Infiniti Q50 Sport 170: is a good pick, it's also ULEZ/CAZ compliant:

Not sure about bettering the reliability of a 2.2 CTDI Civic, but these shouldn't be too bad. I can certainly better 190 bhp with most of them though, all if you start remapping!

If you must have an oil burner, then as mentioned, there is the VW Golf GTD, but at this price point, Mk7's are looking a bit ropey/leggy. I suppose you could get a mk6, but they are a bit old and have a few issues with water ingress into the cabins, etc

This Audi A3 2.0 TDI Sport has the same engine as the Golf GTD, with a lower mileage and price, but it only has 3 doors if that's an issue?

I think most of them, except for the Mercs might be a little on the small side.

I like the look of the Mercs, particularly the 3.5 but not sure I could afford to keep filling it up! The next motor I buy will have to last me a fair old while so I'm guessing the mileage on these Mercs isn't a problem?

I've just sold mine, 06 reg. Gone within 90 minutes of placing the ad, full asking price. They seem bulletproof.

Mileage isn't a problem, but they will cost you more to maintain vs more budget end cars, I'm thinking suspension components which will wear out on 100k cars

BMW 330d or Merc C350 CDI if you want effortless grunt with some economy.
To be honest the 4 cylinder equivalents of the above would be good enough with a remap.

The other cars are the same size as your current Civic. Do you really need a bigger car?
