Afternoon all,

As per the thread title really smile

We have leased for the last five years. First two years was a Mercedes E220d cab, in AMG line premium plus spec. Unbelievably nice car and a bargain at £380 pcm. Back in the days of amazing lease deals.

Past three years we have have an Audi A5 40 TFSI cab. Nice to look at but dull to drive, annoying ergonomic flaws, a seating position on the piss and a st gearbox. Also 380 pcm but fully maintained whereas the Mercedes wasn’t.

Both of the above have been autos and that is our preference.

Our other cars are a “st box” Corsa, station car. A lot of love for this as it’s basically free motoring, and a 1968 series 2a Land Rover.

Our lease deal on the Audi ends in November, and we are trying to work out options for our next car which will be purchased rather than leased.

Budget is 20k or thereabouts.

Criteria;
Convertible preferably. Hard or soft roof is fine
4 seats preferably but not essential as we have no kids but do have two dogs.
Petrol or diesel is fine
No older than 5 years
Automatic
Not starship mileage. 40k would be max but with some flex
Practical and quiet for the occasional longer journey (couple of hours, but also used three days a week for a two hour round trip commute to office)

The usual suspects we have looked at, and are in the running but a bit meh.
Audi A5
BMW 2 or 4 series
BMW Z4
Mercedes SLK

So, over to you guys please for some suggestions. Something a bit out of the peer group above but in the same class, are we missing something obvious.

Suggestions with links would be very helpful if possible so that I can show pictures to SWMBO

The best suggestion/one that we purchase will get a free tour round our rock houses and money pit (see other DIay thread) to make them feel better about their life choices and to laugh at ours…

Cheers all,

Cheers all,
My first picks would be an E Class they're the pick in both petrol & diesel form.

E400 AMG Line Edition a bit over budget but that V6 is the same as found in the C/E43:

Only thing missing is perhaps a Porsche Boxter but will be a bit older than you'd like.

Think a 4 series would be the ticket for the brief tbh
