An uninspiring 'what car'.

Our current second car lease has maxed out its extensions so will need returned soon. Despite hoping we could manage with one car, we're going to need a second run around.
Lease deals are thin on the ground to non existent so looking to 'buy' a car for the first time in a long time at the worst time to be looking due to used car prices.
I don't really have a budget as such. I've been used to either putting a minimal or no deposit down and paying for a monthly lease e.g. the current car was zero down and £184 over two years so £4,416. I'm thinkinking 4-8k.
Whatever I get will be a run until it dies approach. I used to enjoy shedding but with young kids don't know if I can't be arsed with the potential headaches.
The car will purely be used for short runs of predominetly <5 miles. 5 doors needed for 2 young kids. I'm 6' 4" so can a bit of a squeeze to allow clearance for an iso fix vase behind me but can manage.
What should I be looking at?
Fiesta, Suzuki swift etc? Assume small engine capacity and petrol. Like I said uninspiring......

Toyota of some sort. If you're riding out the depreciation by keeping it a long time the balance of the 10 year relax warranty could come in handy. You just need to service it with Toyota which isn't terribly expensive in the first place if you're used to servicing leases in main dealers.

Cheers will have a look. My mother has an aygo, assuming it's that or a Corolla from the Toyota line up?There's a lot to like about the Dacias, we have a Duster, very good too.
We also have an 8yr old Hyundai i20, it dispatches family, dirty dog, work, with aplomb. Takes everything we can throw at or into it, buttons to run. Unexciting and dull but we'll likely keep it till the wheels drop off.

I bought a Citroen C3 Picasso last year. 2014 Exclusive diesel with 30k on the clock, £5.5k from the local Ford main dealer.
It's a comfy and relatively small car, but loads of space inside. Very practical. £20 a year tax, cheap insurance, and close to 60mpg on relatively short trips.

Have a look at a Mercedes B class. In terms of small car on the outside, massive on the inside I don't think it can be beaten. The 1.5 petrol is a bit sluggish acceleration wise, but refined,. So perfect around town, happy on the motorway, just don't try and accelerate up hills! 😂 It feels big on the inside, so so much legroom front and back, feels solid. Big boot too.

Unfortunately whatever I end up with isn't going to get to stretch its legs much if at all. Will be mostly doing about 1.5 miles to drop the kids off at school then another mile to my wife's offices and sit there for the day so will barely have chance to warm up!

I'll throw my choice into the ring - Skoda Rapid Spaceback.
Very comfy in the front for me at 6'4" and loads of room in the back (the name is a bit of a give-away).
Hatchback practicality and a reasonable choice of engines/trims/prices.
Nothing flash about it, it's very much a head car, not a heart one - for when the driving position and rear space of a Fabia aren't quite big enough, but you don't need all of an Octavia.
