Buying a car from a relative of an elderly person

I have found a car that I am interested in buying privately. The seller is selling on behalf of his father than is an elderly gent who lives in a care home.
Having spoken to the seller I have no doubt that this is the scenario but what do I need to do to cover myself, some sort of bill of sale saying that the seller has permission to sell the car on his father's behalf? Maybe get his father to sign a bill of sale before I view it?
The car itself is not expensive and I am sure that there really is nothing to worry about here but just want to make sure I am doing everything right.

If I ask and they say yes is it normal to request to see proof or ask for a copy of that proof/some sort of legal document?
