Hi guys

I’m looking to get an auto m2 competition as my next car!

Currently drive an m140i which I’ve had for 4 years (bought for £24k AUC, trade in value is £20k). Loved it but after 4 years need a change and m2 comp seems like great step up and I love the looks!

I’ve seen m2 comps ranging from £41k-47k AUC and wondered how much these were brand new (with decent c options and auto)??

Any advice or tips on what to look out for.

Mine, with all the factory options except BBK and sunroof was £48k, which included 15% discount.

I have a 240i but mine is standard too. No intention of modifying it.

To the OP the M2 Competition is a brilliant car, a mate of mine has one. I suppose you need to consider if it's worth the change to pay quite literally double what your M140 is worth to make the change. When I think about it in those terms personally I'm not sure its different enough.

Yeh I know what you mean- it is double the price of my m140i. But I am thinking to have the m2c for couple of years and for the depreciation hit (paying outright for the car) in those years the extra enjoyment will be worth it.

After a tough 2021 with personal health issues etc. I am going through a “life is too short” moment and thinking of the m2c

Went to see this car today https://usedcars.bmw.co.uk/vehicle/202108276712175...

Looked lovely and interior (and seats) is a massive step up from my m140i. Very tempting but trying to do man maths at the moment to convince the wife it’s a sensible choice LOL

Also minor point but does anyone know if the m2c comes with blind spot assist?

Thanks £48k seems like a good price for brand new compared to prices we see now.

My man maths for used car
£48k
Discounted by 20% for being used: £38.4
Used car market prices inflated by £4k (applies to my trade in value gone up by £4k in last 2 years)
So used car price I’m targeting now: £42.5k

Looks good if you like the colour. laugh

Or if the missus has reservations, tell her you can save £10k by buying a non Comp M2 with the same length of (AUC) warranty.

You will miss out on a couple of nice upgrades, particularly the seats but you might prefer the soundtrack...

Long Beach Blue is a stunning colour - I owned an OG M2 in LBB!

The problem is that the 'real' colour doesn't show well on most cameras at all - it often looks flat and pastel blue. Without getting all nerdy it must be something to do with the CMOS sensor in cameras struggling to map the specific blue - I would try to see the colour in person if possible.

Why do the wheels on the competition cars have to be so fussy? The M4 Comp wheels are the same.

I don't mind LBB as a colour though, and I've seen a few in the metal and I liked them.

I think all the M2 comp colours don't show well on pictures, Blue, Orange and silver - all amazing colours in the flesh - go with whichever you prefer - i ended up with orange and love it its such an unusual colour and always looks different depending on the light.

DCT and plus pack were essentials for me with comfort pack being a nice to have I ended up finding one with all three and only 5k miles at 1 year old.

Prices are high but that's just the market and i think because you can no longer buy a new one and they are in demand especially low miles in good spec - i was watching cars for sale for at least 6 months and noticed ones without plus packs sitting around for a while so it seems to be a desirable option.

Thanks for your replies guys

For the car I linked earlier, I found another webpage showing it: https://www.marshall.co.uk/bmw/used-cars/13734351-...

I also checked and the previous owner was on instagram as I knew of him and I checked:

It has a few modifications
- front crash bars wrapped blue - per pics
- headlight brows - per pics
- on eibach springs and spacers
- splitter and spoiler - per pics
- front window tints
- PCW modified exhaust

The previous owner said never tuned, but thats a lot of modifications and whilst I don't mind them, would BMW AUC warranty still apply (especially the exhaust and suspension changes!)

Would appreciate your advice? I am tempted by this car if the deal is good, but equally I wouldn't want the BMW manufacturer (not sure much left) or AUC or extended warranty to be impacted

Just surprised BMW selling modified cars..!

^^it's not really BMW but a BMW dealer. Does the dealer even know about the mods or are they turning a blind eye. Or perhaps the mods have been reversed.

I don't think the car qualifies for the extended warranty so I can't see how the AUC warranty will be valid if you have to claim, unless of course Marshalls lie to the underwriter by omission. But then again you may not want to use them for warranty work.

I would look for another car in your position.

Thanks for the advice!

Any exhaust and suspensions mods mean my car insurance won’t cover me (hence my current m140i is standard)

So will continue the search smile

The springs would lose your suspension warranty and the exhaust mods would lose your exhaust warranty and it wouldn't surprise me if you had an engine problem BMW would point at the exhaust mods to invalidate that too.
I don't know what the exhaust modification extends too but if its bypassing cats or the opf then this would trigger an engine warning light, the only way to stop this is with a remap!

If warranty is important to you id find another car - there are plenty out there especially if your willing to travel - theres a really nice red one in berry heathrow at the minute.

Thanks - the red one does look good, but wife has said I can get the m2 but not in a loud colour! At least she is now on board with the idea haha

Has anyone heard of Rockhurst before?

I am gonna go down tomorrow to take a look at this car - would appreciate your advice, and also tips when seeing the car in person

Looking at the pictures it doesn’t appear to have had its 1200 mile running in service done.

I’d avoid based on that, plenty of dcts about.

As above plus pack is a must, anything without the icon lights seems to stick around a while.

^^ well spotted and may explain why it is not AUC. Not sure about warranty implications now or for future extended warranty. You would have to be a bit thick to ignore the running in service.
