1.6 million for a GTR
Discussion
It's a Nismo 400R and only 44 were produced.
Didn't know it existed previously but having a quick Google come up with this:
"Currently, Hagerty estimates that a Concours condition low-mileage 400R is worth over $1.5 million. Additionally, even a fair-condition one is said to be worth $800,000, according to Hagerty's valuations."

A silver one sold in the US for $1.2m last year. Images doing the rounds online of this car from a few years ago, it was advertised for $85k back then.
I know the owner of the car, he keeps his cars in an immaculate condition.
it didn't sell at 85k I know the owner of the car, he keeps his cars in an immaculate condition.
ok maybe at 1.6mm it might sell then ?
just kidding ;-)

This is a really clear example of "collector car" pricing, to me. It's clearly not worth £1.6m for what it is per se - it's not that fast, that sharp-handling or that beautiful.
The key thing I think is that 44 of these cars were sold, whereas 80 million copies of Gran Turismo have been sold, with GT1 through GT6 featuring the Nismo 400R, as the upgraded version of one of the game's hero cars. Thus the ratio of people who like the car to physical cars in existence is huge. I guess out of that huge player base, there are some rich people who really, really want to own a 400R.

it's the same as high price art auctions/salesit's just money laundering and manufacturing a speculative bubble to inflate other assets you and your chums own.
classic video games are going through the same thing right now, companies in collusion with each other to artificially inflate values because it'll benefit them. this is the same.
