Audi A4 1.4 TFSI S Line Black Edition, Mileage 2017
Discussion
Good afrternoon all,
I am looking to purchase on with a mielage of 36000 which seems resaonsable to me, however being honest for the prices I really wanted to for for something with 25000 max however the market pressures as I am sure you are all aware have pushed the prices up.
Being honest this is a massive investment for me as it's only my seconds car (current one is a Vauxhall Corsa 1.4 SXI) so is is like comparing "apples with pears".
I know very little about the mechanics of a car but I don't want to purchase a endless monet pit, could you please help with with what you would expect the max mileage with proper and regualr servicing I would expcet to be able to get from this car?
Also what are the first things and when should I expect them to go wrong?
This really is a important purchase for me of "for me" signifucant financaial investment but it is really what I want so any advice and guidance is reallt much appreciated.
I am a bit stuffed at the moment as I am on holiday from work and have had no car as Timing Chain on my Vauxhall needs replacing and is also due MOT so for me its now or never as this will result in a trip to the local scrappy.
Cheers

The 1.4 TFSI in the 2017 Audi A4 is the EA211 engine. Providing you keep it serviced on time, it should be capable of at least 200,000 miles.
Big bills will be in the form of the timing belt, which will need replacing at 133,000 miles. This will cost £650+ at a main dealer, but can be done for under £400 at an independant specialist.
Oil and oil filter needs changing every 9000 miles at a cost of around £200. Edit: If you are doing less than 9000 miles in a year, change the oil and oil filter annually.
Air filter needs replacing every 57,000 miles. Spark plugs need doing every 38,000 miles or 6 years, whichever comes first. Brake fluid every 2 years.
If it has the S-tronic gearbox, the oil needs chaging every 38,000 miles at a cost of around £200.

How much are you looking to spend? What's your main journey type/Annual mileage?
I wanted to spend no more than 17000, but looks like I am going to have to stretch to 18500.My anual mileage is low, and averages around 10000 to 11500.
Main journey type, short, daily 8 mile round Trip to work.
Weekends can be a mixture of short journeys, 30 mile round trip, with one off 100 mile round trip a month. Normally go to Cornwall and back, once a year, maybe twice so that's a 7.5 jaunt.
Your reply is apprecaited, thank you.

I am being advised to get a 2018 Honda Civic 1.5 Vtec Turbo which I really like but not so keen on the inside.

With your low annual mileage I'd say anything with under 40k is sensible, so something like this S Line A4 would be where I'd be looking:

Does it have to be a saloon?

It sounds like the 2.0T engine would be the pick also in the real world the 1.4T isn't that much more frugal due to having to pull the weight.

Thank you for your advice, ? ref the 1.4 TFSI 2017, do you think at under 40k that it would be a good and sensble option?
The other reply I have had ref expected matienance seems reasonable to me.
Yeah it does, really need a four door and more 'adult car' after having to put up with my 3 door Corsa.
Hi,
So I think I have decieded to go for the purchase I have planned tomorrow as I cannot go without a motor for much longer and this really is my second biggest financial commitment next to my mortgage so for me is a important thing, let alone being what I have wanted for a long time.
I have some further questions firstly ref Audi Approved servcing and plan options, does anybody have experiance for these and are they value for money?
(I have always worried about being overcharged by Dealerships for everything)
Also I need to get rid of my current car, scrap value £270, is this the best way? based on the fact that is is a 2009 Corsa 1.4 sxi, 102,000, needs new timing chain and MOT?

If you have a good Indy/specialist near you then that's where I'd spend my money on servicing & maintenance. So I think I have decieded to go for the purchase I have planned tomorrow as I cannot go without a motor for much longer and this really is my second biggest financial commitment next to my mortgage so for me is a important thing, let alone being what I have wanted for a long time.

Let the scrap merchants take the Corsa.
Don't go anywhere near an Audi dealer, they'll rip you off big style. Warranties aren't worth the paper they are written on.
Best bet is to find a good Audi specialist nearby.
See if the dealer you are buying the Audi from will take your Corsa as a part-ex. Even if it's knackered you should get something and is the least stressful way of dealing with it.

I’d keep it serviced at a main dealer for the next two or three at least. It makes sense to keep a main dealer history on a car like that until it starts to get on a bit. I do think that engine will be a bit small for the car though So I think I have decieded to go for the purchase I have planned tomorrow as I cannot go without a motor for much longer and this really is my second biggest financial commitment next to my mortgage so for me is a important thing, let alone being what I have wanted for a long time.

Maybe consider something like this for servicing over the forseeable future
https://www.audi.co.uk/uk/web/en/owners/servicing/...
It represents good value, and a good saving against standard servicing

This is exactly what I was going to post. Its excellent value, and a no brainer considering you get the excellent proper audi warranty with it. https://www.audi.co.uk/uk/web/en/owners/servicing/...

Thank you all for your help and advice so far.
I am going to have a look at this tomorrow, just hope it lives up to my expetcatcions, not that it has much to live up to based on my previous vehicle,

Just a word of caution, these very cars i.e. 1.4 TFSI Black Edition A4's in manual and automatic were given out on very cheap lease deals back in 2017/2018. I personally would go in reserved, have a good look around the car, make sure every adds up, especially the wear and tear of the car in comparison to the mileage of the car and service history.
Not saying that it won't have been looked after but there are stories out there where people have poorly treated and maintained lease cars, one of them included one of these A4's (don't worry, that one was black) where the individual was clocking the car and carrying out bodged repairs on said vehicle whenever it got damaged.

OK thank you, I appreciate it and any help and guidance.
I have to be honest and I don't know much, I have just gone on the service history (Full Audi) and the fact that it has has a 114 point check at the current dealership.
