With current car prices as they are, I think I'll do 12 months of shedding and sit out the chip shortage, I've already noticed prices and volumes stalling, but I think it will be next year before we see another buyers market. The car I want to buy is showing next to no discount which I can understand as they are scarce being a new model, but mercedes don't mind quoting biblical levels of depreciation, which means I don't mind waiting to see what happens.

Above all it needs to be reliable, this will be the family chariot and the wife will kill me if I'm stuck at the side of the road with a wife and 4 small kids!

Can't buy till August, as that's when I'm back in the UK.

Ford Galaxy you'll get a nicer one of these than the more popular S Max:

Mazda5 Sport this uses the 2.0d PSA unit so none of the issues that you get with the 2.2d.

Can't get much more reliable than a petrol powered Toyota - I have not one, but two to show you, with long MOT's to boot!

Corolla Verso - proper shed money, it does have a towbar though

The good thing about that generation of Galaxy is that by changing the headunit you can get all the modern connectivity you could ever want.

Something like a Pioneer SPH DA250 DAB
