Requirements:
Budget £8-14k.

Megane RS cup. Get the cup with the LSD. Lots of fun. Reliable and handles superbly.

  • edit - just notice you said 5 doors.... well that buggers that

There are lots of good options at this price point I'll list the alternates first:

Volvo V40 R Design Lux Nav 245 hard to find but well worth a look with a nicer interior than the Golf & just as good of an all rounder.

Giulietta Veloce 240 Smart looking & a decent steer

Cloverleaf 235

Mazda3 MPS not quite as good a steer as the Focus ST but they have a strong following:

Now if you want something newer & swift, then the Megane GT 205 is a good shout:

Or at the lower end of your budget the 308 GT is a good pick:

As is the Kia Ceed GT another very good warm steer

With everything listed above being very good options & the more obvious options, my pick would be the 308 GTI, great steer nice interior spacious: & a cracking steer smile

I forgot to add that the lower end of your budget the 2.5T Focus in ST-2 spec (so you get your 5 seats) is the pick of the bunch:
